Another excellent week, beating last week's gain by $.10! I'm not TA-informed, but the word that comes to mind is resilient. Other than yesterday's dreary close, every early dip was met by a strong upward trend. Also, great to break through and hold the triple digits barrier. I know that we're not supposed to be multiplying by 7 anymore, but I can't help thinking there would be more exuberance over a 46 point gain in two weeks pre-split. The bar is open. What'll ya have?

The bar is open. What'll ya have? I am going back to "the great Minnesota get-together". BS&T is playing again tonight. Earlier today, the sound mixer told me they were great last night. CenturyLink will be offering 1GB internet in the TwinCities shortly. I spoke to them earlier today at their booth. I will try to find out more info. I hate to bundle.

When I heard stocks were better for sale I nibbled into the close - I had to - just had to! I have this whole Putin theory (my husband thinks I'm insane) but he (Putin) brings his convoys into the Ukraine on a Friday to cause markets to wreak havoc pre-weekend --- the ultimate "Screw you world" - (meanwhile back in Russia that $0.60 loaf of bread is costing more like $6.00 these days) - and then on Monday we tend to rally when he plays nice or tries to convince everyone that although he is invading, he's not. Also, other than the first two iPhones I think we have had that "supply chain" rumor for every launch ... even with some of the iPads as well. Like autumn follows summer, these rumors are a given. I'm just curious who the maniacs are that sell and buy on them are...what a roller-coaster! Jeez!

PED ran a story earlier today describing how, for the first time, the most popular iPhones sold in China are new rather than gray market, older iPhones. The money quotes by Ben Bajarin are “This is a monumental moment for Apple in the region,” & "I remain entirely convinced that Apple is in full control of their destiny in the region.”fortune.com/2014/08/22/how-apples-iphone-beat-chinas-grey-market/Cheers to AAPL longs.

what are we drinking tonight everyone? working on my 5th old fashioned. cheers Go To IPA for me. An extremely flavorful and aromatic session IPA, i.e., low ABV (4.5%). So I can drink a lot of them without a hangover. Cheers to the longs.

The monumental moment is the convergence of 4G + BigPhone + China Mobile but Ben's mostly right, since China Mobile has such a giant share of subscribers.

I could not help but notice that the Fortune article was in juxtaposition to two articles about Pebble Beach. Be strong, my brothers

Excellent write up on the screen size and resolution choices for iPhone 6. I think Gruber is close to the mark. Earlier today, I stopped in my local AT&T store and tried out the 4.7 and 5.5 sizes, and if Apple makes the latter with higher resolution, as speculated by Gruber, I'm going with 5.5" Incidentally, the AT&T rep (an Android guy) said they were S.L.O.W., all due to customers waiting for iPhone 6 to be revealed. The Amazon Fire phone is a dud. RIP. daringfireball.net/2014/08/larger_iphone_display_conjecture

Is this true or conjecture? OPERATIONAL MISHAPS During the time of the iPhone 5 launch, a manufacturing mishap resulted in scratches on the new model’s metal casing. Also, Apple recently faced a supply shortage for the iPhone 5, supposedly due to issues at Foxconn’s end. A conflict between quality assurance workers and assembly line employees resulted in an opportunity loss for Apple. ..... QUALITY CONTROL ON SUPPLIER The increasing size of Foxconn was also making it increasingly difficult for Apple to exercise quality and design control checks. In fact, some incidents were reported where Foxconn, without informing Apple, changed the sourcing of some model components. www.bidnessetc.com/24337-what-made-apple-diversify-its-supplier-partnerships/

iPhone 5 "disappointment" was affected by any number of factors, but I doubt Scuffgate or QA problems were two of the biggest ones.
And it's not like iPhone 5 was a bad phone, though I DO NOT miss the old home button. 5S version is far superior, and that's before Touch ID.

SOME are blaming George Bush. My Walmart always looks like that My Walmart's iPad display had nothing on it last time I was there, a week ago; just a lonesome chain attached to nothing. This is approximately how it has looked for three years; meanwhile the Android tablet display was neat and had five choices.

Android phones get hit by "ransomware". Scary....... daringfireball.net/linked/2014/08/24/ransomware"You are guilty of child porn, child abuse, zoophilia or sending out bulk spam. You are a criminal. The Federal Bureau of Investigation has locked you out of your phone and the only way to regain access to all your data is to pay a few hundred dollars. That message — or variations of it — has popped up on hundreds of thousands of people’s Android devices in just the last month. The message claims to be from the F.B.I., or cybersecurity firms, but is in fact the work of Eastern European hackers who are hijacking Android devices with a particularly pernicious form of malware, dubbed “ransomware” because it holds its victims’ devices hostage until they pay a ransom."

Went to the verizon store to pay my phone bill and was surprised to see they had a free android workshop in progress. There were 6 people all over the age of 60 trying to learn how to write and send an email on their new phones.
