Anand is an awesome and influential technologist, one of the most knowledgeable journos out there (he had great articles on the A6 and A7). If you disagree, well it's only my opinion.

Very interesting. Anand's reaction to Apple's 64 bit chip in the iPhone 6 was immediate. I knew the depth of the impact with his surprise. I don't know the fit with Apple, but Anand is a whale among minnows in the pool of talent covering technology. I always thought he went a bit easy on Samsung, but that could be more a reflection of my bias against Samsung sleaze.

The Truth About Beats by Dre! I bought a pair of Beats just to check out what Apple bought. I wasn't really surprised to learn that the product is more hype than quality. Beats are VERY bass heavy, which is a turn off. The cord connection to the cans for charging them was ill-fitting (laughable, really). I returned them. Apple is going to work wonders on improving these headphones. In the meantime, I'll keep my B&W P7s.

He (and Brian Klug, also now at Apple per 9to5Mac) didn't hold back in saying that Samsung, among other parties, gamed benchmarks on their smartphones: www.anandtech.com/show/7384/state-of-cheating-in-android-benchmarksAnand's been following Apple for some years - heck, he reviewed iPod: www.anandtech.com/show/1110As far as I could tell, the rMBP was his laptop of choice lately, he had a Mac Pro, and he had a very, very keen interest in (and understanding of!) Apple's custom SoCs. He was THE SOURCE (outsiders' source, anyway) on the A6 and A7. I like this hire. A lot. He's at least as much technologist/enthusiast as he is journalist.

The Interwebs are abuzz with a reported iCloud hack of some "celebs" Lead story on Drudge and elsewhere. Will be interesting to see if this has legs... First question at 9-9 presentation will be if you can't protect people's selfie nudies on iCloud, how can we trust you (Apple) with credit card numbers? Hack link
