Effing idiots - and I told them so. Manager wasn't in but hopefully I will voice my displeasure on Monday (CVS)

phoebear, merchants aren't charged by Apple Pay. It's the banks that pay (supposedly 15 cents per $100)

Well I'll have to think of something else to be vengeful. The whole thing is ridiculous. We're so far behind Europe, UK, Austrailia ... you name it. They all have NFC. Meanwhile I go to CVS and I pay for an item and get a receipt that is hundreds of yards long. It's crazy. I usually walk away and when the clerk yells out "Lady your receipt!" I respond, "Wallpaper a room in your house with it." CVS is archaic.

I wish Apple could pull the CurrentC app from the App Store without getting into anti-competitive trouble. It's pissing me off that these people are using the success of iPhones and the App Store to push their own system while blocking Apple Pay which is far better for the consumer. There must be some way to do it...

But the fun part is, you can already use your Apple Pay-supported card at a bunch, if not almost all, standard NFC terminals *worldwide*. As Apple Pay adds international banks, this thing will snowball like crazy!

I mean heck. Isn't it obvious which team has the edge in the mobile payment wars? *cough MCX cough* Team Apple Pay (TAP). And ironically, you don't really even need to tap to pay.

Banks will sign onto Apple’s tokenization agreement because they have little choice. “Apple Pay is top of mind at the banks from board level on down,” Brown said. “Apple addresses 40% of the market. There’s the other 60% to think about.” Brown acknowledges Apple has done a solid job combining security, with its TouchID authentication, with ease of use, or lack of friction. But he believes Apple may not be entirely above-board in its talk about data. Apple’s Spotlight tool, for example, which looks at a user’s context to make suggestions, is ripe for iAd integration. In concert with Apple Pay, this could make for a powerful ad platform, or for a loyalty program such as the one is Apple is rumored to be launching later this year. “Loyalty is the next frontier,” Brown said.

THE CVS memo: Please note that we do not accept Apple Pay at this time. However we are currently working with a group of large retailers to develop a mobile wallet that allows for mobile payments attached to credit cards and bank accounts directly from a smart phone. We expect to have this feature available in the first half of 2015.
If customers attempt to pay for a transaction with Apple Pay, a message will prompt both customer and cashier for a different form of payment. Please instruct cashiers to apologize to the customer and explain that we do not currently accept Apple Pay, but will have our own mobile wallet next year. www.slashgear.com/leaked-rite-aid-docs-say-apple-pay-may-never-come-24352383/

The fruit looks fabulous; the market, I'm not so sure. This might not be a bad time to hedge. Not short. Not sell long-term longs. Just buy some throwaway puts.

I guess iPad's found even futures trading to be so exciting lately, an AFB2 visit was in order.

(I figure it's already too late for small caps) or do you mean AAPL? Thanks for the warning! What do people here like for unit puts/wings/whatever they're called? How far out? How far down?

Tempted to go into CVS, pick up a crapload of stuff, let them ring it up, try to use Apple Pay and when refused, say screw your company, I'm going to Walgreens. I'm Red's personal shopper and you can buy Depends, a bottle of Tums, Maxim magazine, 3 bags of Snickers, an Applebee's gift card, nose hair trimmers and Trojan Magnums just as easily across the street. .

Glad it's Sunday and folks get the chance to read it and digest instead of the usual shoot and then aim approach. As per the BBC: "Twenty-four European banks have failed stress tests of their finances, the European Banking Authority has announced. The banks now have nine months to shore up their finances or risk being shut down. No UK banks are included. The review was based on the banks' financial health at the end of 2013. Ten of them have taken measures to bolster their balance sheets in the meantime. All the remaining 14 banks are in the eurozone. The health check was carried out on 123 EU banks by the EBA to determine whether they could withstand another financial crisis. The list of 14 includes four Italian banks, two Greek banks, two Belgian banks and two Slovenian banks. The worst affected was Italian bank Monte dei Paschi, which had a capital shortfall of €2.1bn (£1.65bn, $2.6bn)."

I sent a respectful request to Rite Aid, our local Rx provider. With my bride's brain cancer, any chance to reduce her cognitive load while completing daily chores is a plus. Her credit cards have been through three rounds of "cancel and reissue" in the past year. Requiring an entirely new and different NFC payment system adds complexity where none is needed (unless the goal is to skim a few more pennies, not add real value for your guests.) Simple, fast, secure - Apple Pay.
