Happy holidays to all a bit early, and congrats to any savvy/brave/lucky dip buyers. Maybe AAPL gets more interesting after the new year.

I'm happy to share that your AFB postings this week helped guide some seemingly prescient trades. I have not traded much this year ... Still in time out/recovering from the spanking I took on some options the last time AAPL broached 700. So, it sure feels good to capitalize on the volatility. The bar is open, happy hour begins. Cheers to AAPL Lovers.

Ta, Mav... I got a sherbet lemon, but perhaps that means nothing in the US... I'll have to check.

Light volume this week...I've got a feeling we gravitate higher.

I'm cautiously optimistic that the price will push through and stay above the 20 day MA. However, I'm still not ruling out a trip down to the 100 day area (104.5).

Nathan - you and every other technician is saying that. There needs to be some confirmation at a certain level - a new AH I believe. The pull back we had down to 109 only met the minimum level. Doesn't mean it does not suffice but it makes the count more unpredictable so pulling back to the low $100's can't be completely ruled out yet . Most important word : YET! It's the season to believe!

I think the low gas prices have given everyone in the us a nice bump in discretionary spending which bodes well for a consumer products company like apple. Also - given many corp have tons of cash on their balance sheet - I think it's a good time for the IBM / apple deal to flourish. When apple was trading at 109 earlier this week - I scooped in and bought a decent position in the jan 2016 100 calls. Plan is to ride it out to all apple gets to 119 and 120. Will reassess then. Market wants to go up

I think we are cleared for takeoff, but we might have to go back to the gate are and de-ice one more time before heading to new altitudes.

I agree, though I'd categorize it more as a little turbulence on the way to the jet stream... And with that in mind I nibbled last week, buying back some short calls on a 2016 BCS, adding a bit to BABA leaps and bought a nice piece of Chevron, which is already up 9% (with a 4+% divvie!). Who says you can't time the market?

Are there any football fans on this Board? If so, I clearly missed the memo but why is there an NFL game on tonight - Saturday night? I'm confused. Anyone know?

There have been two Saturday games during the last two weeks of the season for some time. It all comes down to television contracts..today is Thursday night football technically. For decades there was a deal... Friday nights belonged to high school football, Saturday's were for college and Sunday was the pro's day. The NFL won't schedule on Saturday until the regular college season is over. TV really controls it all

I stole this from the Braeburners' site, from member CraigH, posted last night... Bodes well for us all.
"I am in Hong Kong for the first time and visited the Apple Store at Hysan Place tonight. No 6 or 6 plus phones in stock—online orders only (I didn’t get the wait times). There was a line out the door of people coming in to pick up their phones. There must be a limit of two phones per order, because I did not see anybody with more than two and most people had two. Then what looked like at least half of the new phone owners would exit the store and sell their phones to men with huge wads of cash standing just outside the store’s front door. Then there were about 12 people spread out across the front entrance selling the phones to people on the street (I did not get prices).
What does this kind of activity say about supply and demand? Demand must be incredible.
On a related note, I have never seen as many luxury watch stores as I have seen in Hong Kong. They are everywhere! I can’t help but think about the Apple watch. How disruptive to the luxury watch industry will it be? And considering the retail space devoted to selling luxury watches, if Apple takes just a small percentage of the market, the current Apple Store retail footprint won’t be big enough. Stores are bursting at the seems just selling the current product lineup. "

Just started watching some football .. Atlanta and New Orleans. I've already seen 2 commercials for Pay, one from Bank of America and the other from Wells Fargo.
This could be a real game changer in 2015 ....
Cheers to the longs and Go Cowboys !

And considering the retail space devoted to selling luxury watches, if Apple takes just a small percentage of the market, the current Apple Store retail footprint won’t be big enough. Stores are bursting at the seems just selling the current product lineup. " I'm not sure the Watch will be disruptive to the luxury watch industry, or that it needs to be. It could be, but this notion that something must be destructive to an industry or replace something else to be successful might not be a hard and fast rule (especially in luxury brands, e.g., cars, handbags, jewelry, etc). I think Apple products have been at least as destructive to peripheral industries as it has to the incumbents in the markets they have entered. Sometimes innovation can coexist with the current players. Maybe influence rather than destroy them? Why set the bar so high? Regardless, I do think Watch will be extremely successful. Coincidentally, I was looking at luxury watches on the Net last night. I want to get my dad a knock-off Rolex (Invicta) for Christmas. My dad could easily afford a Rolex, but let's just say he is extremely frugal, to put it nicely. And then I started looking at real Rolex's, and really began to admire the Submariner and the Daytona (the former worn by two Bonds, and the latter made famous by Paul Newman). It even made me consider buying a vintage Rolex. I think they look amazing with a well-worn leather band. I then started looking at other Swiss brands. Luxury Swiss watches are mechanical devices. They use an automatic mechanism invented in the late 18th Century, rather than an electronic quartz movement. They are the opposite of modern. They keep time worse than a $25 Casio. They represent art and craftsmanship, and of course, conspicuous consumption, rather than the modernity of a consumer electronic device. It's a total guy thing, except a really rich one, combining Tim Allen growling about a drill in Tool Time with the beauty of a Monet, in a really small form factor. Many of them actually have cutaway windows so the mechanisms can be seen in all their glory. Please don't think I've gone completely bonkers (perhaps that ship already sailed), but it actually made me consider that, if Apple really wanted to compete with Swiss luxury watches, it should consider cutaways showing beautifully constructed internals. Dare I say, even some moving parts. I never really got the watch fetish thing until I started surfing, and then couldn't stop. And yeah, I was surprised how many high-end brands are out there that I'd never heard of that sell five and six figure watches. Check out some of the various collections. Obviously, it's a pretty ridiculous extravagance to spend six figures on a watch, but sufficient demand must be out there for all of these companies to exist. And there's surely enough demand for a new four-figure watch to enter the market. Or five figure? I don't know if Apple could get away with it in-house, but perhaps it could partner with a high-end Swiss watchmaker to make some ultra-luxury models. Rolex makes 2000 watches per day, and is but one brand...

I think we are cleared for takeoff, but we might have to go back to the gate are and de-ice one more time before heading to new altitudes. Well, I just hope the macadamia nuts will be served properly on a plate or I am going to throw a fit I had a little bit of a wild ride with a weekly 109 option that rose, then dropped to 1/5th its value and then came out ahead with Wednesday and Thursdays rally. Exited with enough profit to get myself a new retina iMac that I desperately need (which I picked over the mac pro because it is due for an update in the next few months.....and the iMac has that screen built in which I suppose I can live with for a little while I think that Aapl needs to revisit the 119 / 120 resistance before earnings. That sell off was started in a bogus way with the fat finger sell order and the pressure to retest has to be satisfied. (I hope;)

Daughter's age group is 26 to 30. She and her hubby are spending this week with us. She lives in Manhattan. I asked her if she or her friends have tried out Pay yet. "Please mom, "are u kidding? That's all any of us use ... Yesterday alone I went to Duane Reade, Whole Foods, and used Uber to meet a friend cross town. ALL I used was my iPhone." Yep, I raised one smart cookie! My point is that folks are really embracing it - love it! Tis' the season to believe!

OK, follow-up on my Watch post. I'd like to be fair and candid, rather than a totally biased Homer. Looking at the other smart watch options, here's my take. I've decided that to be something I would buy, how a smartwatch looks is at least as important as how it functions. I think it's useful to look at some of the challengers: Moto 360. ($250) Pretty cool optics. It can impersonate any round watch face. But it's too big, and looks like someone strapped a petri dish onto your wrist with a band aid. Plus, crappy Android Wear OS. B- LG G Watch R. ($300) Nice optics, and nice looking. Looks almost like a real watch and can change faces. But also uses the dreaded Android Wear. If it could work with iOS, I'd seriously consider buying one. B Michael Bastian Chronowing. ($349-$649) OK optics, but a very beautiful watch. Meant to be a hybrid style, so the graphics are minimalist. Has an iOS app. I might buy one just for the looks. B+ Kairos MSW/SSW. ($549-$1249) Very interesting idea. A true hybrid of a Swiss-style mechanical watch and a smartphone. It's a bit thick, and I'd like to see the display totally block out the watch while it's activated. I think it surpasses the Watch in terms of physical appearance (frankly, I think the look of the Watch itself isn't all that stunning). Has an iOS App. You have to see this video.
