Don't really eat at McDonald's, but if they want to take this initiative, then I might drop in to support them.

Imagine. French fry grease and salt, ketchup, special sauce, etc., smeared on an iPad screen which you can enjoy while your hands go from pinch to zoom and double-tapping to dunking your chicken nuggets. Maybe McD's can borrow the finger-lickin-good slogan from KFC.

Maybe McD's can borrow the finger-lickin-good slogan from KFC. Maybe that means that they'll have to keep buying replacement iPads. Even more win.

So, my company is going to buy 4 tablets for sales presentations. I never considered anything but iPad but my brother/business partner mentioned Android tablets because of how inexpensive they are. The only thing we will use them for is to view PDF's so it does sort of make sense to go with the lowest cost solution assuming battery life is at least a few hours and it powers up reliably. Any thoughts? I never thought we'd buy anything but iPad but now I'm not so sure.

Think of the user interface, quality of graphics, battery power and selling power. If one day you get rid of the iPads, they will find a home quickly. Androids ? recycle bin.

Cheap Androids may not reflect well on your business. Most Androids don't have the display area of an iPad. PDFs will look great on a retina display.

Are you intending to hook these tablets up to projectors for the presentations? iPad's work every single time when you do this. I am not sure how reliable Android devices are.

Consider Total Cost of Ownership. TCO= purchase cost + maintenance cost - resale value. 2 years in an Android tablet will have retained maybe 10-20% of value, an iPad is currently holding at least 50%, often 60%. So simple maths says the android needs to be half the price to be equal value. Not considering all other factors.

Is that how you want to represent yourself and your company? If you're considering any other mac purchases, check out their business leasing...good way to go and a great write off. store.apple.com/us_smb_78313/browse/campaigns/lease

So I've had the iPad Mini since day #1. I'm now considering swapping for an iPad Mini with cellular data and getting rid of my iPhone 4S in favor of a 'dumb' flip phone. As the regulars here know, I'm a major Apple geek way back to 1988. A bit surprised at myself, actually - but iPhone just seems like overkill: the mini goes with me everywhere. Talk me off the cliff, people!
(Edit: yes, I've done the bluetooth/wifi tether thing. Not compelling to me any more for a number of reasons: [in]convenience and battery life.)

You are still under contract for another year, right? I can't imagine you would pay the penalty for early termination. I get that you like the mini, I can't see you carrying it around in Vegas. ;D

For those business people with 2 wireless devices at all times, the iPad mini with cellular data is a lot more practical in viewing maps, photos and most webpages. However, as Mark says, tourists may have another opinion.

Any idea where to get the least expensive new (or Apple refurbished) iPad 2 units? I assume refurbished is only from Apple?

CL4, after reading that link I am surprised that you did not pick up on several agitating components of the article. (Accuracy & journalism, two words that should never be used together) I know, I just did. Maybe it is just me, but I will be curious to see if the big one jumps out to others.

Way too early for complete critical thinking. A guest buyer for Craigslist just left. And I had misread the original post as it was and deleted a paragraph of mine.
Yes, I didn't want to comment on the "manufacturing difficulties" ... I should have called FUD.

Or where I can round up a 9.7" retina screen on a mini? LOL Or my favorite: Sameer Singh said that the new iPad Mini and iPad 4 are set to account for most of the Apple's predicted 26 million tablet sales in the fourth quarter and will look to beat out Microsoft's Surface and the Nexus 7 by Google. CL4, you know I am just messin with ya. ;D

The smashing popularity of iPad mini should be making software entrepreneurs scrambling for market opportunity. For those with apps already in the App Store, software optimization for the mini might be needed. Certainly, marketing For Apple itself, now would be a great time to update iWork for iOS. You've had 3 years. Insert link to "Full Metal Classroom" video. np, MB. My sense of humor is inconsistent in the Frozen North.
