Hopefully Max pain keeps us above the 620 sewer today. heres some news: appleinsider.com/articles/12/10/11/apple-rumored-to-be-expanding-iphone-production-to-foxconn-subsidiaryShares of Foxconn International Holdings (FIH) rose more than ten percent on Friday local China time, after a brokerage report claimed the company may start manufacturing an iteration of Apple's iPhone within the next few months, reports Reuters. According to findings from Daiwa Capital Markets, FIH is likely to get iPhone orders "soon," despite not having any previous or current business dealings with Apple. The Foxconn Technology subsidiary is the world's largest contract maker of mobile phones, and builds products for Nokia, Huawei and ZTE, however the manufacturer has never been tapped to assemble Apple devices. "Our industry research indicates that FIH is likely to start producing iPhones in late 2012 or early 2013," Daiwa's report said. The news comes on the heels of a report claiming quality control issues have hampered Foxconn's ability to produce enough iPhone 5 units to keep up with expectedly massive demand. It was said that Apple's decision to return to a metal back casing, instead of the "glass sandwich" design seen with the iPhone 4 and 4S, has caused issues with nicks and scratches appearing on brand new out-of-the-box units. Dubbed "scuffgate," the blemishes reportedly prompted Apple to instruct Foxconn to employ stricter quality control methods, which subsequently lower production yield rates. It is unclear whether Friday's reported expansion to another iPhone producer stems from the purported manufacturing problems, though it is well known that stock of Apple's newest smartphone has been constrained since the product launched in September. FIH declined to comment on the matter, but said it will release an official statement later today.

I don't understand the Foxconn story? I was a bit confused as well, but I figure its a massive Foxconn subsidary (which currently doesn't produce iphones) rather than Foxconn the parent company (which manages/staffs essentially apple owned/equipped factories). Does that sound legit?

I'm not totally sure how Hon Hai/Foxconn are organized, but basically there are two separate corporate units, one that trades in Taiwan (and is usually called Foxconn) and one that trades in Hong Kong and is called Foxconn International Holdings. I think the latter is owned by the former. The latter has not done any Apple work historically, and actually has been doing pretty bad as a company. This Daiwa rumor seems to have been debunked, though. FIH issued a statement through the HK Stock Exchange: www.hkexnews.hk/listedco/listconews/sehk/2012/1012/LTN20121012099.pdfEDIT: "Debunked" seems strong. Perhaps the negotiations are just not at a point yet that FIH has any obligation to disclose.

October 23 makes a lot of sense. Before earnings so that mini sales go into guidance (I recall someone here saying that only announced products go into guidance), just in time for holiday sales, eclipsing Surface launch, etc.

Not sure I can stomach another day like yesterday. I see we are up a couple of $$ in the PM, but as yesterday proves, PM means nothing.

imac Refresh Imminent on Tuesday Posted on October 12, 2012 A person with intimate knowledge of the Apple imac has informed me that the imac refresh will be announced on Tuesday. The interesting point was they could not nail down which Tuesday, whether it was Tuesday, the 16th, or Tuesday, the 23rd. It makes sense that it will be Tuesday, the 23rd because that is the new rumored ipad mini launch. This source has been very reliable in the past on the imac. I will say absolutely nothing in regards to who this source is. I believe them. They have been spot on before. LINK: nanseninvestments.com/

2012-10-12 would at least be unambiguous to all nationalities... Still the day/month thing. Maybe: 12 SEP 2012 No, it's always big-endian, year-month-day--no nationality ever uses year-day-month (and it's a recognized international standard).

Aha! Big-endian! I get it! BTW, to be clear, I have no objection to 12 OCT 2012, nor to 2012 OCT 12... Hehheh, maybe we should use the form that most trading apps use for weekly options expiration dates on the assumption that everybody here is surely used to that ;-)
