So based on past history when do the invites typically go out? Oct. 16th? Oct. 17th....there must be some formulaic way they do this.

I anticipate iPad mini to be a great addition to Apples product portfolio and to AAPL's fundamentals over the medium to long term. They are going to sell a lot of them. The halo will get bigger. I also anticipate that the FUD's will use it to somehow make it a negative development for AAPL in an effort to try to drive the stock price lower. They'll talk about how it's going to have narrower margins than current products, or that it will cannibalize the regular iPad, or pick your FUD propaganda to somehow spin this as bad for AAPL. Call me jaded, but I'm used to the MF'ing Anchors, and the so called professional Money Managers, parading across CNBC (I hear about their appearances on that channel), or writing some opinion article, bashing Apple, and oh, that also benefits their short AAPL position. Further adding fuel to the shorts negative sentiment stories will be if Apple should "miss" earnings. Short term they are going to try as hard as they can to drive it lower, and they might succeed, but by January earnings the rebound will have happened in a major way. Short interest in AAPL is minuscule. It only takes one who's motivated and also has media access (print or tv) to try scare the weak hands out and move the price down for a short time frame. Proven conspirators, both recent and distant, like Kass, and Zabitsky, amongst others, come to mind.

When buyers hold out for lower prices, prices fall. When sellers hold out for higher prices, prices rise.
Right now, buyers are holding out for lower prices. When that changes, prices will rise.

If Apple wanted to increase the dividend, how much advance notice does it have to give? Are there rules for that? Could it announce an increase at the next earnings call for the Nov payout or is that most definitely fixed at $2.65? I think Apple announced a dividend RATE (%) that is applied against the price of AAPL on a specific date. I could be all wet, but that is my understanding.

Fine pix indeed, cambrose.
Mini iPad should provide a certain amount of floor support. A new round of Macs would also be nice -- don't count on it.
Edit: rumor of new iMacs finally. once again, I don't count on it.

Phobes, it is funny that your two favorite teams are my two most hated teams. ;D I am a Florida St guy. My hate for ND goes back to an FSU vs. ND game years ago when Holtz grew the grass so high cows could feed. He did this to slow down the FSU players because he knew there was no way he could beat them on an even playing field. I don't even like hearing him on ESPN, he annoys the heck out of me. ;D
The Yankee's, ugh, the damn Yankee's. lol I do hope Jeter is OK though, he is about the only one I care for.

That's ok - no worries - at least we can agree on AAPL and in the end...that's what really matters.

That depends on AAPL being in a position to make a major directional move in either direction. IV will be no joke around then and it'll deflate unbelievably fast after earnings. Yes, definitely count on a 10-point drop in IV overnight. If you want be conservative, plan for 15--if you don't see a play you like across that kind of IV drop, then don't do it.

Phoebes, I've been biting my tongue to avoid any trivial dust ups, but I'm with mbeauch on the NYY and UND thing. Nothing like rooting for the rich kid who has every advantage over all of their competition. They're not exactly underdogs. Ugh. Ok, thats off my chest, now on to what matters - AAPL.

I think this is cool also, just don't see the point. He just did it in July from 90+k/ft.

Joe Kittenger, who set the record, is in on the ground as part of team. Found the live feed on the teevee. Check YouTube for his BASE jumps from the tallest buildings, the dude should be spy!

Very off base - but sports teams are personal and emotional so arguing about it would be silly. Let's celebrate our differences....and I certainly can't help it if my teams keep winning...it's out of my hands. (yeah, had to get that one off my chest too)
