April is the best Dow month since 1950 according to the Traders Almanac. AND, in the first trading day in April the Dow (which now includes "the fruit") is up 16 of the last 20! Can't wait for tomorrow!

JD, I thought you were cutting back on red meat. Being on a diet at home all by myself is one thing. But if someone shoves a steak in my face, who am I to turn it down?

The backlash has begun: Tim Cook chastises Indiana for protecting citizens from the government, but lets Apple do business with four countries that actually execute gay citizens for, well, just being gay. (No link, you can find it easily). Prediction: Mr. Market goes meh. But there is a bit of hypocrisy afloat at the Circle K.

Apple is glad to sell its products to toothless hillbillies in southern Indiana who won't bake a cake for a gay couple (having been in Indiana numerous times, my statement is really not an exaggeration, except that the hillbillies wouldn't have the skill to bake a cake). Apple also does business with the citizens of most every country in the world, even those who offer national health insurance, stone women, murder political opponents of the local president, mistreat their workers, steal American trade secrets, and on and on. The point is, Apple sells its products wherever it can, and does not discriminate who it sells to based on some parts of the Bible. Safeway sells to white supremacists, Starbucks sells to racists, Costco sells to fat people, and I sell to the worst group of all: smokers. Commerce should be separate from religion in America.

Besides, toothless hillbillies are a charming part of Americana (watch "Deliverance" again for the toothless hillbilly version of gay sex). Piece be with you, my easily offended right-wing friend. As a way of closing my silly part of this tiresome thread, I just wanted to share this piece of accurate reporting from The Onion: www.theonion.com/articles/indiana-governor-insists-new-law-has-nothing-to-do,38330/

A few days ago there was some discussion about blackout periods for share repurchases. I think Goldman Sachs published a note suggesting a strategy of buying during the blackout. I have been trying to find the actual SEC rule that describes the blackout. The closest I have come is Rule 10B5-1 While this talks about a repurchase plan, it does not seem to specify the duration or timing of the blackout. Does anyone know the exact rule that controls the blackout period? I believe it's part of Rule 10b-18 (1934 Act) that has to do with corporate repurchases and non-public material information. I looked at Rule 10b-18 but the only part I saw that was related to timing just described when in the trading day they could trade. I found nothing about blackout periods. Both 10b-18 and 10B5 -1 seem to be concerned with providing a safe harbor for insider trading. The articles from Goldman Sachs seemed to imply that there was a set period around earnings when the buyback are stopped, but I don't see that specified in these rules. If it is true and I can determine the blackout dates, I will do an ANOVA on the stock price and the blackouts. I thought it would be interesting to see if the repurchases reduce the variance of the stock price. If it does, it might be useful to know when selling OTM calls or puts. If anyone has accurate information on Apples blackout dates over the past two years, I would appreciate a link

I've been called a libtard more times than I can count on this forum, yet I've never heard you call out those who use that term. I don't think that's fair. Artman earlier today called out JD for rabble-rousing on the intraday. Besides, toothless hillbillies are a charming part of Americana (watch "Deliverance" again for the toothless hillbilly version of gay sex). Piece be with you, my easily offended right-wing friend. No one's calling you names right now that I can tell, there's no call for you to be calling anyone names here or anywhere. We have a separate thread for Cook and Indiana, let's keep it there.

"Apple is glad to sell its products to toothless hillbillies"
I object to the term "hillbillies". We prefer to be called Appalachian-Americans
