Opening the bar early, what with the Market closed tomorrow and 2FQ15 officially closed already. Nice to see a return to green for the week. Now we wait for the new Macbook, Apple Watch and the earnings call. Feels like a long time until the 27th, and I fear it will be FUD-filled.
Needless to say, here in Boston we are ready for Spring. It will be a cold home opener for the Red Sox this year, but the 60's are predicted for the first game in Philly next week. A toast for all of the baseball fans on the board! What'll ya have?

Tap water, best you have.
I just haven't done any real trading *at all* during this AAPL doldrums season. But call me crazy, I think it's still setting up well for a nice rally "provided earnings and guidance are good enough" (with a side of Apple Watch uncertainty).

Watch the Seattle Mariners. We may surprise the American League.
The China smartphone share info virtually locks in the bet on a great March quarter, just completed.

I wonder if Kantar will re-assign Carolina Milanesi to the Apple Watch (band) beat? And I want whatever drug the "analysts" who are predicting 100 million phones sold last quarter are taking.

Don't get your hopes up. This will not make the news (apart from maybe random geek tech sites) because it's not Apple. Nobody cares if Samsung's phone bends or not. It doesn't make headlines. Apple takes all the spotlight for good and for bad.

Apple takes all the spotlight for good and for bad. If people put expensive highly sensitive electronic devices in any position upon their bodies where the device is exposed to enough stress to bend it, its their own darn fault. I'm device agnostic on this piece of common sense. I can't wait until the first "My Apple Watch stop working when I put it in the microwave" stories.... Now, if they had bought Apple Care for their Watch, as noted below.... 9to5mac.com/2015/04/03/applecare-for-apple-watch-999-for-edition-79-for-watch-59-for-sport/I gotta love that Apple Care for the Gold one costs twice as much as the Steel Watch itself (almost)

Has anyone found a definitive answer to the upgradeability of the watch? I see lots of articles offering guesses, but I have found nothing from Apple. I think this is the number one question that most people are asking about the watch, and still no clarification from Apple? I am infatuated with the Edition version with the black band that they keep showing in the ads, but would never consider it if it was not upgradeable. Any links that are conclusive would be appreciated.

From what I have read, Apple has been totally silent on this, which to me means no upgrade path until we hear otherwise. To me, that is the only safe assumption right now.

Apple takes all the spotlight for good and for bad. My hopes of what, their new phones not selling? I just said it made me smile. So the new Sammy phones look a lot like iPhones, have no removable battery or sim card or waterproofing and they bend similarly… taking slavish copying to new levels. Perhaps Samsung could come up with a logo that looks like, maybe, a pear with a bite taken out of it. Happy Friday.

I generally hate market holidays, but I guess it's a good thing that markets are closed today:

I generally hate market holidays, but I guess it's a good thing that markets are closed today: This is not a good sign for the economy. I'm wondering if there could be a swift downward adjustment in the whole stock market ahead of us, in anticipation of a recession.

Easy to solve labor participation rate, encourage one of the couple to stay at home or teach at neighborhood schools or work in childcare. Two income (except teaching/childcare) family creates home/childcare inflation and not enough teachers !!!

Public sector jobs are irrelevant (and in many cases, harmful) to economic growth numbers, whatever other benefits teachers might bring.

The upgradeability issue is what was going to hold me back from buying the watch until at least the 2nd version. But I'm guessing they will have a high resale value when it comes time to upgrade so I'm going to buy one when they come out.

Why would AAPL stockholders want Apple to adopt that business model anyway?

Heck, even Samsung is running away from replaceable anything, all about the sealed systems now. We've long ago known that Apple doesn't make much anything modular, least of all processors. And after years of cold-blooded analysis and billions in revenue, I'm inclined to believe it's discovered that most customers don't care about much more than adding RAM to certain of its desktop Macs now and then.

I think I have suggested before that upgradability makes sense just for the Edition series. Certainly there are a lot of people who can drop $17,000 on a disposable watch, just like they can drop $150,000 on a depreciating asset like a car, but there are a lot more who might consider the Edition version if they were buying a watch for life. The extremely wealthy and I have observed a pact to avoid each other, so I don't really know how they think, but I always imagined that when they bought a Rolex, they assumed that they would own it and pass it on to their children. But what would be the point if the watch is just an obsolete relic?
I think that the watches that form Apples competition are timeless timepieces. Can Apple really compete at that price range with a watch that will only be attractive for 2-3 years? If the Edition is a status symbol, how does that work when there is a new version out? Like I said, I don't really understand how those people think, but I think upgrades are the make it or break it issue for that tier of watches
