Stocktwit people seem to think we have a sell the news. Meanwhile, Andy Zaky is on the warpath. This time AAPL vs. Goog at CNN/Fortune finance.fortune.cnn.com/2012/10/23/google-vs-apple/Big finale: Apple still has at least 3 years of explosive growth ahead.

The AAPL store is saying we can watch it stream live on their site!? The Apple store is down and just mentions that they will be back later. Watch Keynote Live is displayed at the lower left of the Apple.com page. Added Link : www.apple.com/apple-events/october-2012/

From twitter someone observed: "Briefly posted increased iPad 2 and iPad 3 prices on store this am. Each device increasing by $20. To widen gap between Mini and iPad." Bullshit. No way is Apple going to jack the prices on existing products, without some substantial new feature added. Edit: I'm not saying they won't go up, I'm calling BS on the reason.

Apple closing in on a big event and the market gets bad. Unlike yesterday, I don't believe the market recovers. At some point AAPL will break down with the market. Man I hat this crap. Here is the biggest of all problems. On Friday the Daily RSI dropped maybe 5 points down to 33ish, yesterday it jumped to 55. This gives them all the room they need to push us down below 600. I still believe the 200 day is in our future. I felt this way yesterday, still feel the same today. This time the overall market is going to be pulling , not a good environment. To be honest, I was not expecting this earnings season to suck so bad.

Oh goody, look who's on Fast Money this afternoon....no doubt to do some MORE Apple bashing:
"Douglas Kass @dougkass Today I will be on CNBC's program FUTURES at 1PM and then on Fast Money at 5PM. #stockaction"

We are in sight of "local high" ("high of day", if we omit the opening 1 minute) at 627.54.
Compared to the past 3 days, this is light profit taking.

Here we are with a "that was then, this is now" morning. DuPont is down. AMZN is middling. AAPL is hoping for blastoff.
And/or
evil overlord shakeout.
Gregg's ultra-keen analysis shows that evil overlords are definitely looking to shake out investors who are sweating.

So far, at least we aren't going under the low from this morning. Just sideways channel action.
Any significance to live streaming the event? Do they have a "one more thing" or are they just testing their live streaming capabilities?

Wow, the ticker up top is going crazy bouncing from -7-9. I don't like either number.

I do not think it is going to matter, but the DOW has moved significantly closer to its 200 DMA. Honestly, I don't even see it slowing down for it. We shall see, S&P is lagging behind the DOW's move, but it sucks also.

Side tangent. What is the relationship between PE and IV? A lower IV is desirable when purchasing options correct? Zaky said that after the ER on Thursday AAPL's PE could be compressed to 13.1. Would this allow you to buy options for cheaper? Thanks for bearing with me while I learn.

I don't see much coverage of this.....
Samsung Refutes Report and Says That It Will Still Sell LCD Panels to Apple Casey Chan Earlier today, The Korea Times reported that Samsung would stop selling LCD panels to Apple. That report seems to be wrong. Samsung has come out to say that, "Samsung Display has never tried to cut the supply for LCD panels to Apple."
Basically: if the LCD panel relationship has ended between Apple and Samsung (two companies who aren't exactly chummy with each other), the blood isn't on Samsung's hands. The statement CNET got from Samsung is pretty clear that they "never tried to cut the supply" to Apple. Apple hasn't replied to that statement yet so we don't know if the two companies are still in business with each other, all we know is that Samsung was once the single largest supplier of LCD panels to Apple and now they're supposedly not a part of the iPad Mini. I still believe the 200 day is in our future. Agreed. In the same way that a rising tide floats all boats, a falling one weighs on them all too.

With most on this Board conditioned to believe that Apple would not develop a product (iPad Mini) just to fill a market niche/price point... that the company remains steadfastly dedicated to developing insanely great products with jobs to be done... The question then becomes, "What jobs will a smaller iPad do (in addition to portability) better than existing models?" I'd venture that the best guess is reading content, i.e. e-books, etc. and we can look forward today to Apple unveiling a hybrid e-ink technology. I wonder why more people aren't speculating on this as Apple has filed patents for such... Here's a link from last year: appleinsider.com/articles/11/04/07/apple_exploring_hybrid_e_ink_lcd_displays_with_independent_regions.html

Would this allow you to buy options for cheaper? Thanks for bearing with me while I learn. None. They measure two completely different things. Yes a lower IV is desirable when purchasing options, but it does not always work out with p/e. The IV has gone up from when we were higher and the p/e has dropped. Now if you want the perfect time to buy, it would be a low p/e combined with a low iV. You should see that next week because the IV will crash after earnings. With a subdued share price it will be a good op to buy, unfortunately for me, I do not have much cash to buy with. Andy is assuming a big beat to get to a 13.1 P/E. >10. If you use 45 ttm times 13 you get 585. Hmmmm, that number keeps popping up.

There is an increasing realisation that electronic screens kick out a load of blue light which messes with your melatonin and hence the quality of your sleep. If these tablets are going to replace books, then they need to cater to people that read in bed. So far only ones using e-ink are truly suitable for reading prior to sleep.

If I was a parent of a small child - and AAPL focused on this feature - I would be all over it like a fly on.... well you know what flies enjoy! It would be great!

Yes, and, ideally, improved readability in bright sunlight as well. The best of all worlds in one device. In other good news, it appears Apple is opening up iBookstore to a lot of Spanish speakers, as well as to Brazil: appleinsider.com/articles/12/10/23/apples-ibookstore-set-to-launch-in-18-new-countries-at-ipad-mini-event

Terrible news...Apple's rubber band patent has been invalidated. This is one of the key patents that they defended against Samsung in the billion dollar verdict. How can they do this?! www.fosspatents.com/2012/10/patent-office-tentatively-invalidates.html?m=1I always had a sick feeling that they wouldn't see a cent of that billion dollars. Not that the amount matters, but it's a matter of principle. The way things are going, copycats will be given carte blanche going forward.
