Come one...weren't you just a little wired at 4:00 EST today? Didn't it feel like a turn was underway? Didn't you treat the dog better at home tonight? Didn't that glass of your favorite beverage taste a little better? Isn't hope a wonderful thing?

Until then will just be great full to WS for giving Apple the opportunity to buy the stock cheap. In a few years Apple can the raise the dividend by 50% and we won't care so much about the ups and downs. This manipulation has been going on since 2005 and I don't expect it to end any time soon.

Random ramblings over coffee. In New Orleans for the weekend. It is the lead-up to Mardi Gras madness and the natives are restless. Lots of new construction down here, but more that 10 years after Katrina it still feels like a disaster zone. So I cracked an Abita Ale with my high school Physics teacher (he is now 70) and talked about death, travel, and taxes. Solid demo of the Apple Watch. The killer feature for his wife and him was the Dick Tracy calling function. He exercises every day and thought the fitness tracking functions were "complicated." Hmmm. They both use Android smart phones.
Spec'd a new MacBook Pro 15", because my current axe is nearing the end of Apple Care. My top configuration is the same price I paid three years ago, and for that I would "only" get 0.1ghz speed bump, 2 hour battery bump, and Force Touch trackpad. I may wait another year or so.
Book is scheduled to ship in February. Minor setback because the print shop can't handle transparent PNG graphics, so I need to replace almost 200 images throughout the InDesign layout. No way this project could have happened on a PC. Heading through Houston, San Antonio, and Austin on the way to Dallas next. Any pointers for checking out Apple Inc. activities in Austin?

So Steve Zadesky who has been heading the Apple Car project is leaving for "personal reasons" - too tin foil hat to believe he is leaving because Apple is about to announce they've acquired Tesla and he no longer is needed? I always wonder why Apple loyalists leave.. Timing just before earnings announcement is the factor driving my (probably incorrect) thought process..

Funny, my dad just finished his first book. I designed the cover for him, trying to finish it this weekend. Best of luck on yours. If you are traveling through San Antonio, stop in a little town near New Braunfels called Gruene (pronounce "green") and eat at the Gristmill. It's built in an old mill (cleverly named). Quaint little tourist stop that also claims Texas' oldest dance hall. I can get you some Austin food recommendations, Eric probably can as well. There is always the Oasis with its views of Lake Travis (more about the views than the food.) there is a place out past Bee Cave road that specializes in wild game that is pretty amazing, more upscale than it sounds. Have a good trip

When the first rumors about an Apple Car came out, I said it is 10 years away. Then the stories mentioned 2019 date and I saw 2021 as possibility.
Now I go back to 10 years.
Apple is taking on a big industry and will do so to shake it up. All electric with new ways of manufacturing will take a decade to develop right.
Crazy deadlines with poaching of engineers indicates we have several years of simply wandering thru the wilderness.
Battery technology needs to improve and manufacturing them can't be based on a single source which is your competition. They learned their lesson from Samsung.
Before they can design the car they need to develop their own in house technology. That will take many years given the many systems of the car.
I think it is time to put Apple Car talk in hibernation and revisit in 7 years.
The iPhone, Apple Watch and Apple TV will give us great advancements in communication, business, health, and home industries.

I also think that Apple getting into music players and then cell phones were considered to be foolish ideas. And finally, do you really think that Apple is in any way like either Microsoft or Dell? Talk about blinders…

OK, my blinders are off, now what? Agree with you? You've presented nothing but negative speculation. Maybe Zadesky left to avoid the shit hitting the fan, but of course there are a dozen other reasons that could apply. You're awfully quick to jump to the worst possible conclusion... There will always be speed bumps along the way to getting a product out the door. Apple's history of creating new devices and successfully bringing them to market ought to earn them more street cred than you're willing to give them. The question for me then is why be a shareholder if you have so little faith in the team? (serious question - no blinders required)

I think it is time to put Apple Car talk in hibernation and revisit in 7 years. The iPhone, Apple Watch and Apple TV will give us great advancements in communication, business, health, and home industries. Gordon Murray of McLaren F1 fame designed the T25 City car years ago. He also designed the complete factories to manufacture it. All Apple needs to do is to implement it. He designed both electric and conventional versions. I don't think it would take that much to bring it to market. But a good question is "What is the rush?" Oil will be cheap for years to come so 80 mpg Smart cars are just not going to be a big seller. Self-driving cars certainly fill a need, but why build them until the feds and states have all the regs in place? Apple doesn't have to be first into this space. Like iPods and iPhones and even tablets, they can wait and come in with a superior product. The convergence of self driving cars, Uber, and Tesla point toward a "car on demand" ownership model. Connectivity, vertical integration of hardware (computers and mechanical), software and the cloud will all be needed. I think Apple is best positioned for this and I expect it much sooner than 10 years

Food in Austin.... Franklins has what many consider the best brisket in the country but you have to wait at least 2 hours to get it. Doubt you will want to wait that long. A relatively new place for excellent interior Mexican food ( esp. Great mole ) is El norango on Rainey street. Fonda San Miguel is also some of the best interior Mexican you can find anywhere. My favorite sushi is Uchi. It may be the top three sushi places for me in the US. It has a sister place Uchico. It is more Japanese farm house food but also great fish. Wu chow is a new place on 5 th street . Excellent. Want Tex mex? Hard to go wrong with Chueys. Tacos to go? Stop at any torchy's ( get the democrat ). Believe it or not some of the best brisket is at Rudeys gas stations. Get the moist brisket and tell them to leave some bark on it. You can eat on site. Some of the former top rest. Have fallen a bit. Jeffrey's is still very good but new owners but they still have the corn meal oysters on yucca chips one of my all time favorite appetizers; president w's as well. Just want a beer and listen to some live jazz? The elephant room on Congress. Check the Austin Chronicle web site to see what live music is going on on the dates you will be here. Oh there is a new hotel In the Rainey district Hotel Van Zant and their rest. Called Geraldines that everyone is praising. I haven't been yet but hope to go soon. Stay Downtown and get up early to jog or walk on the new boardwalk on Lady Bird lake. Great place to exercise. Email me with any questions. Eric in Austin

I thought I had options enabled on all my brokerage accounts, but the one I wanted to buy a basket full of AAPL options contracts with on Thursday did not have options trading enabled. E-Trade's blurb said they would get back to me within 48 business hours with an approval. Meantime AAPL has taken off and I'm out significant money. Kicking myself right now.

I don't understand how guys at this level can go 10 quite frankly. Think about how fast the original Mac team scattered themselves to the wind. Part of his task, once given the green light, was to define the objective or words to that effect. Mix that in your head with Apple's mantra of not pursuing products or categories unless they can add a significant amount of value/difference. I think the guy is quite probably fried.

Watching the Broncos / Patriots game ... Phil Simms just called out Microsoft by saying " Patriots having trouble with their Microsoft Surface Tablets on the sideline" .... Great product placement ! Maybe they are not allowed to just say tablets since Microsoft Surface is the "official" tablet of the NFL .... either way I got a kick out of it.
Cheers to the longs ....
