Gross margin kinda sucks. This is actually kind of a good thing. I was worried about GM because of the education buying in the past qtr plus lower margins on old product they dropped their drawers on at the release of new stuff. People weren't buying all those 4s at full price so margins suffer (obviously not as much as our folks at AMZN)

40% GM is no concern for any company. We're really just spoiled.

Gross margin kinda sucks. This is actually kind of a good thing. There is a trend of it rising from the 1Q to the 2Q, but then declining over the next 2Q's. Some kind of seasonal thing. For example, in 2011, it went from Q1 to Q4: 38.5%, 41.4%, 41.7%, 40.3%; in 2012, it went: 44.7%, 47.4%, 42.8%, 40.0%. I wouldn't get too excited about it.

Expect massive whipsawing tomorrow for the rest of the week just in case. But don't panic.
Heh, check it out, someone bought at 610. LOL

Would be a great time for Apple to buy back shares.

I'm also in the camp that we could end up tomorrow after some early pain.
Look, these earnings have been baked in for a couple of days, if not longer. A 13 week quarter coming up vs. 14 week last year. Rolling out a record number of new products, bang, bang, bang.....
So, when does it all "gel"? Maybe not until January or February, but it will.......
If Wall Street is paying attention there is a lot of forward looking good news in all of this....
The GM is really what made my estimate too high....but 40%...with all the tooling up and rolling out that has been done.....no sweat.

Ha ha look at AH. This is not going to be bad at all. A bad day is bobbing between -20 and -22 AH. AH is nearly always an exaggeration of reality

40% GM is no concern for any company. We're really just spoiled. I'd like to see it continue to slide down toward 35%, maybe even 30%. At those margins, there would be very little room for competitors to make any profit...

Great point made on CNBC about the cost of ramping up a brand new product line. iPhone 5, new iPad, iPad mini, iPod Nano and Touch, iMac and 13 inch MBP all saw new production lines started in 4Q. That is a huge hit to margins.

AH prints now in the low 600s. See? Was it really that bad?
AAPL has been presold for a while now. Fundamentals are taking over.

Red, spot on as usual. The GM is the reason for the miss.
I have my tinfoil hat on now, but does anyone else find it interesting that it pinged 585 right out of the gate?

With all the major product releases we have just witnessed, the analysts hopefully won't waste valuable time during this conference call asking inane questions about future products that Apple will never answer.

The understated genius of Tim Cook at work. I'd also tune out that noise from Redler (he's not a fundamentals/Apple analyst type) about iPhone 5. Insane demand is a good problem to have, and iPhone 4 supply issues and iPad 1 supply issues didn't drive customers to inferior competition in any significant numbers from what I can tell.
