Okay, it's official...we are STAYING here, with TMO's blessings.
Dave and I had a very nice, gracious email exchange. While he was prepared to be as accomodative as possible to try to meet our "hosting" needs, he completely understood when I explained that what I originally intended as "temporary lodging" had wound up suiting us far better than expected. He left the decision to me and said he would support my choice either way. He only asked that if -- and only if -- I chose to make this temporary lodging permanent if I would please remove the public redirection links from TMO's AFB (since TMO is a business) which I have done and ask that you too honor Dave's request in the public TMO domain.
Unfortunate circumstances may have brought us to this place, but I for one am really happy to be here. So I ask that everyone please, in the spirit of goodwill, put the brouhaha behind us and enjoy our lovely new home!!
xoxo Lovey

I appreciate the great times I had at TMO, and so I give my thanks to the TMO management for hosting the board for many years. I regret that the split was acrimonious for a time, and do not wish the last few weeks to tarnish the good work you've done over the years.

Condoleezza Rice and Hilary Clinton couldn't have handled things better.

Circumstances may have created another opportunity: There are quite a number of former quality contributors to AFB who for one reason or another have gone silent. Reasons were varied, but TMO was cited at least twice that I recall. Without mentioning names, because I would forget too many worthy people, some of these guys and gals were very valuable indeed.
If current members have the means to connect with any of our old friends, should we not attempt to let them know about our new home? I have a few email addresses from the old days and intend to urge a few of my favorites to re-emerge.

Depends on the definition of interesting. He almost convinced me to leave AFB for good, before he got banned. I for one never believed all those claims for a minute.

Condoleezza Rice and Hilary Clinton couldn't have handled things better. +1 Thanks, iPad! Yes indeed! Thank you, Lovey. If I were an admin at either site I'd be obligated to be diplomatic too. I'll try to be diplomatic from this point forward, but no guarantees. ;D I will say this, and then I'm going to shut up about the split: Yes, TMO is a business, and that business benefitted from numerous hits driven by the content on AFB/TMO, which was created by some of the best and most forward thinking tech sector and investing minds out there. What I'm hearing is that somehow we at AFB owe something to TMO, but not vice versa. Has any other part of TMO gotten them a mention in Forbes or the WSJ? Will they get such recognition going forward now? Doubtful. Do they even recognize what they've lost? Not from what I've read. The expressed ingratitude on the part of TMO is what astounds me. If they truly wanted an amicable split, if they truly felt that AFB was a negative for them, or at least not a positive, I would think they would be happy to see us on our way, and to assist us in making sure that all of our folks could find the new location. That doesn't seem to be the case. Anyway, I'm done with commenting on TMO now, and I'm not going to be back at TMO for any reason.

Alls well that ends well. Many things strike me about the move.
1. How fast and responsive ProBoards is.
2. The iOS app. Especially on the iPad. It makes catching up so much quicker.
3. The dramatic uplift in posting volume. Is this explained by the better user experience?
4. The return of posters we had lost.
5. The discourse. Hopefully the improvement is not fleeting.
All good.

Thanks for the info, ipad. So it turns out those links/posts were deleted by ipad in her TMO moderator role because of an agreement with them. That's fine by me. Frankly, I always believed the blacklisted links were just part of their filtering system, and it seemed out of character that TMO would delete the links. So that's good, I guess. Out of respect for the agreement, I've deleted a link that I posted over there before seeing this post. And I've posted some conciliatory remarks over there, too, just because it's how I feel. The key point from that post for us and our future here in our new forum is this excerpt: Here'e a link to that post: www.macobserver.com/tmo/forums/viewthread/85053/P60/#651594

So iPad, what's it all mean? We'll be AFB2? This is just a new forum? Someone's paying for a few million ad-free views?

This has been an incredible transition... Wow! I've been standing on the sidelines watching the intensity. I don't post much, but very much enjoy coming here gaining insights, and I enjoy the personalities. This community held strong, and I also thank iPad for incredible leadership, and the rest of the core group for making the transition and holding on to something special. If this community dissolved, it would truly be a sad day...

Ipad, thanks for sorting this new home,
I still find the request to remove the public redirection links from TMO's AFB very 1994 BIG BROTHER, Which in its self is so ironic for a Apple forum.

Go back up in a balloon CL4 and take another picture of the second bridge. The picture of the Golden Gate Bridge is spectacular, the second one has to many clouds. Beautiful bridge though. This is a fairly new bridge in Georgia.

There is something about bridges that mere buildings can't express. I'll leave the balloons for another year. Its a bit windy up here. The Mackinac Bridge is the biggest bridge I've had the pleasure to visit.
