Here's some more good news for those like myself worried about gross margins: "Like with the launch of the iPhone 4 in 2010, Whitmore believes Apple's gross margins will only dip for a single quarter. He also noted that the company typically beats its own margin guidance by between 2 and 4 percentage points. As such, he believes there is "a healthy amount of conservatism" in Apple's margin guidance for the first quarter of fiscal 2013." appleinsider.com/articles/12/10/29/concern-over-apples-cyclical-margins-called-overblown

3 million does include 4th gen....Apple® today announced it has sold three million iPads in just three days since the launch of its new iPad® mini and fourth generation iPad

The best part from Tim Cook: "We set a new launch weekend record and practically sold out of iPad minis." I like that implication.

It's called momentum trading, which guys like Dan Fitzpatrick like to play, waiting for the price to exceed a certain SMA. But I noticed in the article that it looks like the most popular IPad minis are those which had the least memory (and which were also the least expensive), so I would think Apple will shift its manufacturing to reflect this. Not sure if that's good or bad for GM's. "Of those stores that still had some iPad mini stock available, the 16GB in Black & Slate and White & Silver were 100% sold out, while 90% of the 32GB in Black & Slate were sold out and 76% of the White & Silver 32GB were sold out. Finally, only 14% of the 64GB of the Black & Slate were sold out at those stores with stock available and just 10% for the 64GB White & Silver."

"Technically" *cough*, I guess I identify best as a momo/swing trader, though I try to buy dips too. Moving averages and Fibs are more like guidelines to me, which increases the danger. A bit early to call this momo for AAPL, though, unless you shorten the timeframe IMHO.

"the practically sold out" my assumption is due to probably selling out of white ipad minis everywhere but still having a few black iPad minis in stock similar to what happened to the store in my area. I think aapl should be monitoring this colour preference trend very carefully in both ipads, ipods and iphones.

Well I put some last stupid number buy orders in for today that probably are on the wrong side of the price trend given the mini numbers and PM activity.

Bloomberg TV just interviewed a Wall Street floor trader. His comments on AAPL, "...you can't really keep AAPL down....and $100 swings in the stock price are just part of it's normal vacillation".

I try to think in SCM terms when Tim gives info on, well, supply. As impossible as it is for a mere retail market participant to even begin to understand the complexities of SCM. If I were a "friendly" but absolutely brutal competitor in charge of a $150B tech company - yes, that's more than a little presumptuous of me - I'd have chosen those exact words to communicate my confidence in my ability to address demand pretty decently right out of the gate. After all, we're not "totally" sold out. The cellular models will add a nice boost very soon...and I'm sure the iPad mini + cellular has tons of eager customers waiting for it.

Guys like Fitz and Redler look for showing commitment at certain levels, like the 100-day, 50-day, etc. When they see the price holding that level, they get on board. Fitz made a comment on Friday AM that he buys when AAPL hits the 13-day SMA (605 or so).

good news yay. Cramer just goes 'can we break the vortex?' I'm with him on that!
On another note i had the best dream ever. In my dream I woke up at the computer, and Apple was 670. In the 5min chart I distinctly remember a 100 point candle in the 5min chart! Then it went up to 770 and over 930 towards the end of the day lol.
Then my dream turned into a nightmare. I kept getting interrupted at work, and my schwab wouldn't work in closing out my options positions. I just wanted to cash out from the 500% gain in my account, but either people kept coming in, or I had technical errors. I woke up laughing.
Anyway, here's to a green premarket. Please let's goooo up now.

OK, I was sent this by a friend in Ohio. This may be the funniest thing you hear all day (a caller into a radio show, not political, just funny). I will have to say, if females in Wisconsin think like this, we need to changes the voting laws in Wisconsin. Truly hilarious unless you think like this woman caller. www.youtube.com/watch?v=CI8UPHMzZm8&feature=share

And with small supplies, people will buy the higher priced ones thus averting the rath of their loved ones. It's all good. Nice to see some green. Maybe that will chase the bears back into their caves for a Winter's hibernation.
