Happy April Fool's Day, everyone. It's snowing here in Boston, to tell the locals that they were fools to think that the just because Spring officially arrived last month it would make an appearance here before Patriots Day.
It was a sterling first quarter for AAPL, with just one red week and a total gain of $27.84, almost exactly 24%! However, I do expect the next two quarters to be somewhat challenging. It will be interesting to see what the revenue results are for this quarter. We have heard almost nothing about Far East sales, unlike recent years when it became an important driver of FQ2 results. There can be no doubt that the specter of special surprises for the Fall "super cycle" could cause many iPhone fans to delay purchases until the then. On the other hand, I do expect a flurry of announcements of new products from Apple Campus 2 over the next few months, especially since there has been a paucity of them since New Year's, so perhaps they can pick up some of the slack.
In the meanwhile, let's hope that anticipation and leaks can keep the party going for at least another quarter. History tells us that there has to be a retrenchment at some point, but let's hope that Tim has a few surprises up his sleeve for the next two quarters.
For Both Apple and Broadcom, Toshiba's Flash Memory Unit Brings Rewards and Risks discusses the pros and cons of Apple bringing yet another portion of their technology stack in-house.
Apple Pay Scores a Major Win in Australia That Could Set a Global Precedent for the Tech Giant discusses the decision of regulators to support Apple not giving banks access to the technology used in Apple Pay, which they want as a basis for starting their own mobile payment services. Obviously, I like Apple keeping control, but I am chagrined that the strategy does likely slow the spread of Apply Pay.
Ewan Spence has his usual curmudgeon's take in Apple Loop: New iPhone 8 Hardware Revealed, Stunning iOS Update, Product (Red) iPhone In Black, but does include a more-interesting-than-usual set of topics.
Happy April, all you fools out there!
