Did someone call out the class clown? Since sponge isn't around as much , anyone in AFB2 gets ONE free, iPad-approved (as in not moderated, I guess ) all-in-fun joke at my expense EVERY time AAPL spikes more than 25 points in a day. (Limit one joke per +25 or more day, for obvious reasons.) How about it? (Heh.) Really, Tom...you are giving me a free punch??

This is the iPod mini all over again but on a completely different level. I sensed it from the moment I saw iPad mini during the keynote. Everyone did!
In terms of my own minor Apple recon, the Apple blueshirt I spoke to while switching out my fraying Lightning cable (hope that's not a MagSafe 1 type-issue) says iPad 4 sales are "average for iPad" while iPad mini sales are, well, crazy. So maybe my 2:1 sales assumption for iPad mini for fiscal Q1 2013 isn't too off the mark.
Red: Very funny.

I was in a BBY yesterday. They had a nice display of PCs running Windows 8. I told the sweet young BBY blue shirt I was looking for a computer for my Mom. Since I am a GrandPa, (and look like one), she knew it was for an even older person. She recommended a $989. Sony laptop. Everything Mom would need was easy to get from one screen. No mention of any tablet or Apple product. I mentioned that the cord was a problem. I didn't want Mom to trip over it and fall while trying to grab the laptop as it fell. She still did not mention an Apple product. Hmmmm.

I mean, my lightening cables are probably the most robust ones Apple has made. Did you buy a Korean knockoff?

Oprah touting the Stagefright Surface Tablet, destined for Zuneville, says one thing for certain... The Oprah brand will take a hit. Only Losers promote losers. Therefore, Oprah is a loser. Spread the word.

And what stuff would Apple do with that and why wouldn't they be doing that with the Billions they already have here? Food for thoughtSo basically this entire article reenfores the fact that US corporate taxes are too high, hence corporations keep their profits overseas. More like the tax laws are too complex, they will find ways to pay lower effective rates. Also, even GS thinks that we would be setting a bad example (we got them to give in, lets do it again).

OK, I want to nominate a new Colossally Dumb Meme Award™ in honor of Anthony Scaramucci of Fast Money. This dumb bunny Scaramucci keeps repeating that "Apple has stopped innovating" bullshit. Even worse, he attributes the recent sell-off to it, without a shred of evidence. Newsflash for dumb bunnies: Apple innovated the personal computer revolution in the late 1970's. It lasted about 40 years. Then Apple creatively destroyed it with mobile, smartphones and tablets. 75% of the world is still waiting for cellphone towers, so it might be a bit early to say this revolution has run its course. So yeah, can Apple at least saturate all addressable markets with its current mobile products, before it has to reinvent consumer computing all over again, let alone every two quarters? I mean, we don't even have a full quarter of iPhone 5 sales, or even a partial quarter of Mini sales, let alone are they getting stale. Seriously, does Apple have to launch a product, and then launch another one to replace it in the same quarter? And what other company, Scarabunny, do you demand this incessant innovation of, BTW? Let alone one priced below the S&P 500 P/E average? Apple is priced like a bad company, not a perfect one, yet you hold it to this ridiculous standard of innovate a new product every month or die. To you and all other dumb bunnies, why doesn't every company with a higher P/E than Apple have to do this? Yes, I know, I shouldn't watch CNBC. But idiots shouldn't be on financial shows. It's not a perfect world. +1 just watched it. sigh.

imagine if you were one of those who sold at $505 on friday.... Those would be the people who had put in stops long time ago and forgot about them. I feel for them. They are going to look into their account and realize they were sold out and now are $60 in the hole. Stops my ass. I call stop losses, "lock losses" because they lock in the loss when you least expect it. Basically, you cannot manage a portfolio of individual stocks on autopilot, you have to at least minimally manage it.

Let's hope the puts catch up. Or that we are Weeeeeeeeeeeeeee Sentiment Mode™. Here is Travis' comment on this... 11/19/12 (pm) – The put side never really had a big build up during this latest sell-off. I was saying last week, retailers along with everyone else had been selling calls. I would say this is the reason we did not see a build in puts like the past. I had mentioned this can actually be bullish, which brings me to my next observation. I think last/this week setup a “frames” type situation without the put build up for the aforementioned reason and calls overshot to the downside. Due to this situation I wouldn’t give the $550 calls a lot of weight, but try to move out towards the $580 area in anticipation of a change. If the bulk of $550′s were initiated STO covered calls, they will not cause selling pressure like you are used to seeing. This is why I do not have the 80% range on the highest call OI. If you like to use the highest OI at all times, you know where they stand.

Mr Max doesn't always matter. "Wa wa wa wa wa What's that?" (a friend bought a used Amiga after fondly remembering Max Headroom) The difference between the 550 calls and 555 puts (thus "net cost" for every point over 550 due to the 550 calls) is only 6k, so the equivalent of 600k of shares. On a low volume week that would matter, but with trading volumes of 45m one day, and nearly 30m the other 2 days in the last 3, a few weeklies don't matter much. I'm expecting another jump tomorrow, 10 points out of the gate. A friend reminded me that often after a big day things stay a little flat, but in my experience with AAPL that's not as likely in this situation. On a medium volume and move day, flatness might follow, or slight gains or losses. But on a super day, whether in volume or percentages, especially around a big turn around, the odds are on continued big movements. When that movement is downward, as it has been recently and as it was in 2008 twice and back in 2000, it really hits you hard and doesn't give you much time to react, as you hope for at least a slight recovery as it continues to plummet. Likewise in a big move up, like in Jan/Feb/Mar timeframe this year, you might examine things at night and decide to buy in a little more, only to have yet another quantum move at opening, and making any pricing you did based on the previous close worthless. Things could slow down this week, especially as volume slows down with people being on holiday. OTOH, people also want to be prepped for any potential rally coming up, and I hear there's a popular shopping day/week/month/season coming up. And people are practically driving the forklift right to the plane in order to get their hands on new Apple products. It could be that momo and volume trumps mini Pain this week.

Currently using my AT&T unlocked 4 on T-Mobile... We have the whole family on T-Mobile with unlocked (and in my case jail broken) 3GS iPhones. We'll probably move to 4 or 4S soon. Their coverage is getting better. We have at least 3G service in most areas around Portland now. If you don't plan to switch to the iPhone 5 I advise you NOT to hold it before you buy the 4 or 4s'es.

Am I the only one who thinks TC meeting with Obama is enormous news. Of course for AAPL the stock this is technical move, short covering, and the oversold lift we have needed for the past month and we are 15-20% away from the stock being priced fairly again. But I think TC meeting with the president is enormously important for Apple over the next 4 years such as in US jobs, corporate taxes and repatriation. To me every instituition knows they need Apple to perform well over the next 4 years and so does the Fed's. Hopefully, TC was able to sway some pro apple reforms. This suggests that a tax holiday or reduction for overseas profits may be part of any compromise the president works out with congress to avoid the financial cliff. It's the biggest issue Apple has with taxes. I just wrote much the same thing in the Dungeon area before I saw all of this discussion.

Fear not - I received my iPad mini a few moments ago - FULL ONE DAY EARLY! So there ya go! I don't know what lit the fire under the iPad mini deliveries but mine was originally scheduled to be delivered on 11/21. Then they changed the delivery date to 11/26, as in a week from today. So of course Fedex came today while we were out and about. Picked up in Shanghai, China on Friday, 11/16 and delivered to my doorstep on Monday, 11/19? That's some seriously fast delivery time. Well, I do hope you're enjoying your mini, I've got to wait one more day. javascript:add("%20:-[") Interesting story on your delivery. Another reason for the reduced %GM - mass air transit use this quarter as opposed to usual slower (cheaper) means?
