Lynx has made its way into the headlines. Of course, long range development started a couple years ago as features that failed to make 10.8 were pushed to 10.9.
Gene Steinberg and I agree with a June release of 10.9.
For 10.8, Gene brings up the topics of 10.8 user interface "excesses". The hiding of scroll bars until needed would seem to be minimalist overkill. (I'm still on 10.6.8 until my next Mac comes along.. I still have operational documents in Appleworks. Apple really screwed up by abandoning some Appleworks features.)

If you think 10.8 is too minimalist now, just wait until I've gets into it. I really need to transition to 10.8. Quicken holding me back though I have the migration path ready to go. New Tear's Resolution?

(I'm still on 10.6.8 until my next Mac comes along.. I still have operational documents in Appleworks. Apple really screwed up by abandoning some Appleworks features.) yep... I am personally on 10.6.8 and my business (design practice) is still on that as well. There are some things I just don't get with 10.7+. For instance, why is it in iPhoto now if I share a photo using mail I have no record of that sent item in Mail? I certainly can't use the share functionality for work purposes as there is no evidence that I have sent anything. It's almost as if Apple are on a quest to dumb down OSX to Fischer Price functionality because the consumer cannot handle anything beyond the core functions required to exist in the Facebook/Twitter sphere. Perhaps I just don't get it. What am I going to do when the iMac hits the shelves?... I'm going to buy one, two or three.... will 10.8 make a satisfied 10.6.8 user happy? I hope 10.9 brings it all together. As for Appleworks... Apple killed this product when it rebranded Clarisworks as Appleworks. Claris, oh Claris... (yes I know... a subsidiary of Apple) produced wonderfully intuitive software - claris works, file maker, claris cad... can't recall the others. I think Claris Works became Appleworks around the time of the $150M M$ deal. From there on in Appleworks did a 'Han Solo bumps into Jabba the Hut' impersonation languishing in stasis while, just as crapware, Office with in all it's bug ridden/turgid code was promoted by Apple for the faithful. ...kinda like Pages 09... what's with complete halt in development of this potentially fantastic software? I use this every day and it has dreamy functionality but it could be so much better through incremental development.... ... super long Apple/AAPL....for the record

If you think 10.8 is too minimalist now, just wait until I've gets into it. Ive will do great things to OSX. I think he will do more than just tinker with the aesthetics of the UI. His influence and care as a talented designer will have real effect on the direction and interface fuctionality of OSX

10.9 is coming. More important will be binding together legacy pieces that were used to persuade PC and corporate switchers in the mid-2000s. Mail, Address Book, iChat/Messages, Calendar, Notes. The interface to these disjointed repositories could get pulled into a single, simple and integrated app, linked through iCloud to a similar Siri-enabled environment in iOS7.
We should also see the regular odd-year updates to iWork'13 apps, tightly bound to iCloud. With the new Mac Pro I'd bet on updates to most pro apps, particularly Logic and Aperture. (FCPX is rolling right along with the fall updates but fully seamless distributed processing could be a killer feature in 10.9)
It doesn't get a lot of press but the Fusion Drive is one of those untrumpeted innovations that sets Apple apart. Eventually it'll be standard for high capacity storage and guess who probably holds the patents and IP? Drobo has pushed the envelope for smart background data shuffling between SSD and HD, but Apple could revolutionize storage management to a third tier: SSD, HD, Distributed Cloud.
And lastly I really expect a breakthrough year for iBooks Author. There is no reason why iBooks creation can't be tied to the services already embedded in iOS: Facebook, Twitter, Yelp (through Siri), maps. Learning content with dynamic social and geographic context delivered to persistently connected mobile devices is the holy grail for workplace performance support. The leap to this from the current "dumb" e-media-books will be as pronounced as the leap from print to iPad.

My wife and I just used it to publish her first children's picture book. It may not have been the perfect tool for the job as we had to come up with a few workarounds, but ultimately we are super happy with the end result. Full page illustrations, glossary, audio, etc. not bad for a free piece of software. If they mange to add read aloud/along with word highlighting I'd be super happy.

Up until recently I worked in an office environment which ran a very locked down windows environment. My only piece of ice water in hell was logging into iCloud.com. iCloud.com is perhaps the most under publicised apple service/product in its lineup - I'm doubting even here that everyone is aware of it. What are these regular iWork updates you speak of? (Given that the current suite is iWork 09)
