I read a book called The Zurich Axioms by Max Gunther several years ago. At the time it struck me as being a significant departure from the usual wisdom that market commentators spout about diversity and risk etc. Today I stumbled on a page outlining the basic concepts in the book. On reading through the list I am prompted to dig out my copy once again as the intervening years will certainly add colour to a second reading. You can find the page of axioms here: www.sharelynx.com/papers/TheZurichAxioms.php

A logical sequence.....make a plan, follow the plan, buy at lows, and stay nimble. Sounds like Red and Lovey guiding us onward. He forgot "patience". Or maybe he didn't.

Birdie! Thanks so much for reminding me of The Zurich Axioms! I started reading this book a while ago on the recommendation of Hannibal (Alan) over at AFB1. I really liked it, but per my usual ADD modus operandi, I put it down, became distracted by something or other, and forgot to return. Time to pick it back up...

It was one of the first books on trading/investing that I read. Suffice to say I was probably a bit too green to fully appreciate it. Once I've finished my current book, I plan to pick it up again.

Birdie, more than half-way through The Zurich Axioms now, and I think if I keep reading, I'm liable to quit trading and go back to dollar-cost averaging into long-term investments! EDIT: Great, Axiom #12 says: Shun Long-Term Investments... I might not be ready to absorb the full wisdom of this book...
