Well, at least it was a green week, but I really expected AAPL to be above $180 by now, if not for the Facebook Follies. Perhaps this will be a blessing in disguise as folks become more aware of the difference between how Apple safeguards their personal information in comparison to other tech giants. China sales may be down, but somebody believes that there is hidden demand because Chinese customs officials bust $80M drone-based iPhone smuggling ring. Meanwhile, A new Analytical Report Claims that Apple is on a Wild Hiring Spree for Engineers that Could Boost Siri's Popularity comes under "better late than never." I am sure there will be improvement, but I do wonder whether Apple's approach to personal data privacy is part of the "problem," as the broader cache of personal information collected by competitors may very well provide much greater context in which to evaluate vocal requests. Meanwhile, those competitors seem to be turning to dirty tricks as described in Fake news: Apple isn't killing iTunes music downloads. I am not a Watch user, and probably will never be, but How Spotify for Apple Watch is more important than just music on your wrist describes how new software (referred to as StreamKit) continues the effort to make it a more effective stand-alone device. I am already becoming impatient for the next earnings call.

Mixpanel updates. Sales of X looks healthy enough to me. Combined 8, 8+, and X at 20.69% seems healthy, even if not a 6 type super-cycle of immediate overwhelming adoption (see mix panel below, big screen offered, 2 year updates cycles w/subsidies, etc.). 8@5.61 + 8plus@6.27 + X@8.81 = 20.69% To me the current trend hints of an extended/elongated yet strong iPhone cycle. Its a larger installed base than 2014/15, more models are simultaneously for sale, the X had a late launch, etc. There is a good chance this fall we'll see an additional X model, and a new SE, adding more strength than a regular "s" cycle. mixpanel.com/trends/#report/iphone_8_X/from_date:-151,report_unit:day,to_date:-1 Without iPhone 7 and 7+ All: iPhone 6 and 6+:

Speaking of Siri... ... Will Apple IBM Deal Let Watson Replace Siri For Business Apps? describes some of the inner workings of the Apple/IBM partnership and how the IBM Cloud Developer Console could assist the expansion of Siri's business services capabilities through access to IBM's cloud-based services library. Perhaps this could contribute to a refinement of "Appleās privacy-focused policies of doing on-device inferencing."
