And Rutgers - I think Avi may also be in that court but need to confirm with Lovey on that. If that's the case - who the hell am I to argue...oh and one other thing...I think they all think that it becomes a rip to the upside from there - but again - let's confirm with iPad (Fitz does). Phoebes, you are correct!! I just checked and it looks like unless we can get thru the 575-576 area with good volume, the above scenario plays out...but if we get thru...then ;D So again, it is a IF/THEN scenario and we will have to let the market Gods guide us. GOLD STAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not sure if you caught this. They should ban or suspend the company doing this. Basically what this says is the algorithm is purposely built to put latency into the system via hundreds then thousands of orders, cancels them and does it again. The only goal is to create a time gap to give them the advantage. In real terms of an auction (and that's basically what the market is) this is akin to reaching over the aisle and holding down a competing bidders bid stick. I find it difficult to believe this isn't or won't be made illegal. www.cnbc.com/id/49333454

Yeah, Nanex has been complaining for years to them will all the evidence they've collected, but no one ever does anything. Their website has a lot of eye-opening articles on all the crazy HFT stuff going on.

Was it much higher or in the red at some time? my broker allows pre-market orders starting at 8AM and i think this applies to many traders ... so there is quite often a spurt of activity starting then ... i'm seeing a low of $543.00 at 8:09AM ... it's since gone back to the PM highs around $551 or so

I can perhaps understand not investigating if the impact is infrequent and minor but 4-10% of all market volume? Tell you what I'll start a rumor that the hacking group Anonymous is trying cheat people or to bring down the market by accessing the system and creating false orders again and again therefore gumming up the system and ultimately a threat challenging the Capitalist model, our way of life, apple pie etc... As the Feds investigate update the rumor with a, "Wait, holy red herring Batman, it seems its not Anonymous, it's actually an insider, an HFT. Go figure!"

Then I had a remarkable recovery :-)

Just looked at a maxpain board.
Supposedly, the max pain for this week and next is 565, and 590 for the Dec monthly, BUT is 570 for Jan OPEX.
Be careful out there. Mean streets.
