I'm going off to bed now, but is anyone staying up late to see if iOS 6 gets released at 12am Pacific? I've been checking for the last half hour or so. Still nothing to report.

iPad, MB still has an outstanding request to add closing prices and price changes to each Intraday topic.

appleinsider.com/articles/12/09/19/apple_pays_an_estimated_207_to_build_16gb_iphone_5_report_says"Apple pays an estimated $207 to build 16GB iPhone 5, report says By AppleInsider StaffResults from a virtual teardown from IHS iSuppli were made public on Wednesday, revealing that Apple pays an estimated $207 to build the base model 16GB iPhone 5, a cost slightly higher than last year's iPhone 4S. The market research company noted in its report that while previously-expensive NAND flash memory prices have dropped, the iPhone 5's display technology and 4G LTE wireless components brings the build cost up to $207, or $8 more than consumer pricing after wireless carrier subsidies. In comparison, the bill of materials, or price without labor costs, for last year's iPhone 4S was estimated to be $188. In total, the iPhone 5 is estimated to have a BOM of $199, while the 32GB model rises to $209 and the 64GB version jumps to $230. With a manufacturing cost of $8 across the line, the final cost comes out to $208, $217 and $238 for the 16GB, 32GB and 64GB models, respectively."

I saw an article that stated the pricest component was the display at $44. That should come down with volume, improving the margin.

MMm, yeah, here's the deal. I hate these stories. No offense, and I'm not shooting the messenger, but they are stupid. It's as if Santa's elves magically create iPhones. These silly stories do not include the price of: Licensing R&D Marketing Shipping Assembly, aka, BUILDING Apple's 43,000 employees Taxes (sales, corporate, etc) iOS Electricity Huge, UFO-shaped buildings Lots of other stuff I missed Gah! /Rant appleinsider.com/articles/12/09/19/apple_pays_an_estimated_207_to_build_16gb_iphone_5_report_says"Apple pays an estimated $207 to build 16GB iPhone 5, report says By AppleInsider StaffResults from a virtual teardown from IHS iSuppli were made public on Wednesday, revealing that Apple pays an estimated $207 to build the base model 16GB iPhone 5, a cost slightly higher than last year's iPhone 4S. The Geekbench results were true. iPhone 5 potentially being 2x faster than my 4S? It's-a nice, it's-a very niiiice.

I'm going off to bed now, but is anyone staying up late to see if iOS 6 gets released at 12am Pacific? In the past, Apple has typically released iOS updates at 10 am Pacific.

Wait times for the iPhone 5 are a 3-4 weeks! Bet there will be a hot resale market for a couple a weeks. That should make a news story or two.

AAPL up a buck in very early pre market.

Just read glowing reviews of the iPhone from John Gruber, Walt Mossberg, Jim Dalrymple and Charles Arthur (The Guardian).

A glowing review of iPhone 5 from the Guardian - 5 Stars - High Praise indeed. "With features including Siri, turn-by-turn navigation, new maps, a panoramic camera, 4G, restore to iCloud and a new digital dock, the iPhone 5 has it all – and it is ahead of the competition again" www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2012/sep/19/iphone-5-review

I use Google Maps all the time when I drive or for a million other reasons...not happy about this review saying that the new Apple Maps suck...yes, it says sucks in the title: tinyurl.com/979zjofHate to be a Debbie Downer and I hope someone on this thread knows enough and can discredit the article. What say you? PS And yes, I am aware that we will still be able to download Google Maps on our iPhone 5 but it gets under my skin that AAPL hooks up with a mediocre partner to produce this...and supposedly not up to the caliber of AAPL. If it wasn't ready for prime time, why do it?

I don't dispute that - and of course it's pretty clear - but from the article it doesn't seem up to "AAPL snuff" -- and like I said, not typical of them to not be the best or at least almost the best with their apps

Ya, they need labor and overhead application to be more meaningful, but BOM is still a huge deal, and something of serious importance in the industry.

What is the review consensus about the Map app?
I would not overweight the most negative review.

Someone mentioned AAPL outperforming the market and a ratio. Try watching AVSPY. If the RSI gets into buy territory on the 30 min and especially on the daily (the gnashing of teeth here will be very loud) is a great time to add to long term positions IMO. They don't come around very often but just another metric in the arsenal.

Having poured over most of the reviews of both iP5 and iOS 6 it's pretty clear the new Maps app is not yet the equal of Google Maps. For some that may be a huge issue. But for me the key is that Apple is likely to improve the app over time and it may one day equal and even surpass Google Maps. I'm sure Apple had good reasons to ditch Google. Let's see how quickly they can improve the App. Of course, that may not help everyone right now.
