Pretty good week, all in all, especially considering that it mainly consisted of clearing the decks. Given the many skeptical previews of The Big Show on Monday, the price action was more optimistic than I expected, if a bit choppy. Surprisingly, at least to me, Tim Cook reportedly met with a Chinese official as he tours the country ahead of Apple's big event. I guess Tim feels pretty confident about Monday, and there is no doubt about the importance of China. Speaking of Monday, Bloomberg opines that Apple’s New Services Come With Built-In Conflicts. One thing that could be interesting is to see what metrics the pundits/critics develop to judge the success of the service offerings. Although they stopped reporting units for iPhones, can they not report subscription numbers for the services? Looking past Monday... MacRumors has 2019 iPhones May Include 18W Fast Charger and USB-C to Lightning Cable, and... 9TO5Mac has iPhone 11 may be able to wirelessly charge Apple Watch and AirPods, include faster USB-C charger. First time I have seen "iPhone 11"; I keep waiting for them to just go to year instead of model number.

I think it's nonsense that Apple is reinventing itself as a services company. The Monday thing is certainly part of a strategic move, but comparing it to the introduction of the iPhone is just wrong. I would say it's an evolution of their strategy to maintain platform dominance. I don't think the strategy would be any different even if iPhone sales were still rapidly accelerating.
