Slow start to the board today. Probably an even slower market.

waxpancake: First tweet from my new iPad/Surface/Kindle/Nexus! t.co/suoYzGQwThat's awesome. agreed in the awesomeness. yesterday evening i was trying to think what metric would show purchases, and tweeting definitely gives a nice perspective to the breakdown. First Facebook post would probably be an even bigger sample, but I don't think data like that is search-able. All week will be slow, but next wednesday should be interesting.

I think the Twitter activity is a very nice look at the all important younger demographic. Teens want Apple products. Children want Apple products. Gaining their loyalty now will pay huge dividends going forward.
When I was a kid, we used PCs at school in the computer lab. That's all I ever knew. That's all I ever bought until I got to the end of college. My first smartphone was a Windows phone. I imagine had I been using a Mac in elementary school, my laptops would have always been MacBooks. My first smartphone probably would have been an iPhone. You get the idea.

waxpancake: First tweet from my new iPad/Surface/Kindle/Nexus! t.co/suoYzGQwThat's awesome. I agree. It's a fair metric to judge the iPads vs. the Nexus and Surface, but I'm not sure whether it represents the Amazon products, which may not be used to tweet as much. An interesting study might be to gauge how users spend time on the various devices, by competitive product. For example, is the iPad more for communication and internet intensive tasks, and the Amazon products more for passive entertainment?

For those with PCs at home, it was a nightmare back then, because disks were incompatible been the two types machines. Then there were those ugly ass iMacs with the puck mice. Overall, the experience turned me away from Apple products only until recently. My friends used to view Macs negatively as well, with the exception of a fanboys I knew, but they kind of drove me away a bit more.

even though volume is weak all around, I wasn't thinking we'd be down so much more than the rest of the market. hopefully last week of profit taking from longs...

Given the volatility, a 10 point distance from high and low of the day is fairly narrow.
That said, I don't believe in support lines during the end-of-year trading.

Range bound hypothesis 500-530 (maybe even a lower ceiling than 530) makes this action not the least bit surprising.
It is just a hypothesis though, of course.

Lets see, the media screamed Fiscal Cliff about 1000 times per day since Nov. 8th and lo and behold, shopping numbers are down. They're back to ramping it up again today.

It's 9:00 AM Pacific, and there are 16 posts. That metric should tell you all you need, to understand this weeks trading. No interest, which is good considering the last 3 months.

DO YOU WANT to listen to a "rocket scientist" talk about his business? This is from December 5th, 2012. Keep in mind, when you listen, he is USUALLY talking about his number ONE customer. JUST AMAZING!

After breaking through, we bumped our head twice on the trend line from 501.23 to 510.86. I'm not giving up on the bull count yet, but I don't like the way this is playing out.

JUST AMAZING!His emphasis on differentiation was pretty remarkable. They aren't interested in off the shelf solutions to be offered to the widest array of OEMs. I like that, not specifically for what it means to Cirrus, but what it means to Apple.

Open Interest dropped like a rock over the weekend, with the Put/Call Ratio dropping from .68:1 to .67:1.
It looks like the Bulls had a lot on the line for DEC expiry, but the Bears had even more (relatively). So to me, the Bears are in retreat.
Next Tuesday's Open Interest and Ratio is going to be very telling for the next 3 weeks.

So I just heard that DigiTimes reported that AAPL had a glitch in its touch screen and was only able to manufacture 8 mln instead of the 10 mln they had hoped for. I have not read the article - this was mentioned on CNBC. It was one of the reasons they gave for the stock falling today. Again - look who is discussing it and who their source is - insane.

Can someone answer a question? If you buy shares during after hours and the company goes ex dividend the next morning, are you eligible for the dividend? Thanks.

I believe the DigiTimes story to be moderately inaccurate, posing as last minute FUD.
Interesting question on dividends. It deserves a definitive answer.

I think it depends on what your settlement date is. Will your settlement date for your AH transaction be on the same date if that transaction was done during market hours?
