Happy Father’s Day to all the Dads out there . The purpose of Father's day was to honor one's father and the influences of fathers in society, not to encourage them to honor themselves. It doesn't matter whether they're living or dead. So the qualifier "to all the dads" just shows how far removed commemorations like this have become from reality. Just yesterday someone told me "happy father's day if you're a dad" and when I reminded him of this and he went off on a screed about how rotten his dad was, and even from what he told me it struck me he couldn't have been half as bad as his ungrateful son thinks. Par for the course. Romantics never grow up.

Nice TIL, but I'd say the purpose of Father's day has changed over time. Now it's about thinking about and remembering fathers. No idea what TIL is. If that's what it's about now, and not originally as I had it, what in your estimation was it about originally?
