It is interesting to look at Apple's PE over the past several years. We are almost exactly where we were this time last year. I see an easy run to $600+ after earnings. ycharts.com/companies/AAPL/pe_ratio

Yeah I had the same experience earlier this week. Our local store was absolutely mobbed. Literally shoulder to shoulder with tons of transactions taking place, even this being after xmas. Witnessed one lady purchasing 4 iphone 5 64gb, two minis, and two touches. My jaw dropped to the ground. I'm pretty sure it's headed overseas or she has some very lucky relatives. Right across this store at the msft store, the traffic was busier than usual. But I stood in there for about 10min playing with the Surface and the stark contrast is that I didn't see anyone buying anything. Mostly browsing. btw, the surface sucks. Seeing the Apple store continually packed gives me a tad bit more hope that this great story isn't over yet.

Yup, rez. I've had a "managed growth" tinfoil theory about Apple for some time now. And now that Apple's a _really_ big company, it'll be fascinating to see how Apple manages "slowdown" in the years ahead. I suspect it'll (re)mature just fine this time.

How many financial web pages do you folks keep tabbed open on a typical day? I just counted mine: 30 different sites open in tabs in two browser windows. Part of the problem is that everyone here keeps contributing great sites to keep open for handy reference.

I just fly through rumor and news sites, plus whatever's of interest on the Stocks app news feed. Never been much of a tabbed browsing person tho that can lead to having 10+ windows open now and then.
Non-Apple wise, investing.com for RT futures, CNBC RT app to occasionally cross check, Yahoo/Google Finance, freestockcharts.com, and T3 when I feel like NON-obvious perspective (AAPL in extended downwave, chart looks like crap - shocker)

I played golf in 47 degree weather yesterday and had 3 margaritas. My give a shit factor is dropping daily. The media is out of control, I hate to even turn the TV on. I thought you never golfed in sub-60 weather! I hear you on that one Mark. Getting very numb at this point. My wine consumption has definitely increased this past month. Go Pack (from a desperate Bears fan - ugh) :-) Chas, lol, I don't mind 50's as long as it is sunny. Damn weatherman lied to me. Lol It was suppose to get into the 50's, never did. It was sunny though. My buddy from NC was down and we had an opening of decent weather. Hell, the golf game is going into the crapper also. Played my favorite course and shot 84/ 41 with one stinking birdie for 27 holes. After my miserable play in Vegas I am about ready to quit. I don't mind playing with people who suck at golf, I just never thought I would be one of them.

CBS has always been my (mainstream) news channel. I just watched their coverage of the FC, made me want to throw up. Their numbers, over the next 9 years the defense budget would be cut by 450 billion and the rest of the cuts would be about 470 billion over the same 9 years. Again, divide by 9. The amount of money we are talking about is ridiculous. The budget deficit is 1.3 trillion and 90-100 billion/year is suppose to make a difference in the worlds largest economy. Apple generated that in cash just this past year. This is a sham. The US budget is $4 trillion, yep, 100 billion is the end of the world.

Unless we all bite the bullet and deal with entitlement reform - nothing will work. You can raise taxes but that alone will not be meaningful - need to do both. We point fingers at Europe but we're not willing to make it right either...and I am speaking about both parties...all politicians.

Spoke with a Rep/friend at an AT&T Store last night. He is averaging 5 iPhone 5s per day with a couple 4Ss to boot vs a single Galaxy of any flavor. Anothern(worked for Verizon until about 4 months ago) said about the same thing. He thinks the AT&T stores should become a kiosk sub-stores for Apple. The people at a Verizon kiosk 100 yards distant weren't near as enthusiastic. It almost seemed they had a bias in favor of Android. Could this be a hold over attitude from their sans-iPhone days?

Something we should all be very sensitive to is this, had MSFT released Surface in 2006 we would have hailed it as a breakthrough. Apple is out front, and the ecosystem is a great customer retainer, but a misstep by Apple, coupled with a leap by MSFT could change things quickly.

Thanks for the reports, Gregg. The iPhone 5 and 4S ratio fits within my ballpark.
I have long been in agreement with the MSFT misstep theory. I would encourage Apple to be more open for new arenas. The "laser focus" theory is built around a strong ecosystem. New stuff doesn't necessarily thin Apple's focus. Instead, its more likely to open my wallet.

Samsung paying big bucks for salespeople to push their products. Cute Steve Jobs story

Gregg, you forget that the iPad was written off and was called a flop by some. It really was last Christmas when the iPad changed the market.

Apple stock sentiment ebbs and flows like the tide. The tide is at the low for the year, just like last year. The tide will start rising again in January, and earnings will show that Apple products are still selling VERY well. The next high tide will be in March of 2013.

According to reports in the WSJ...there seems to be some progress in Washington. One sticking point seems to be estate tax (which Repubs and Dems from farmland states do not want to raise). You would think they could compromise on a number and get this thing done. Anyway - fingers crossed - but hope springs eternal. Let's see what the day brings.
Well...David Gregory sending tweets out about his exclusive interview with POTUS...and now it looks like an agreement looks less likely. I believe this was taped yesterday - not sure. What a shit show.

The Cowboys / Redskins Game was flexed to 8:20pm EST / 7:20pm CST on NBC. Last regular season game for the NFC East Championship. Which does not mean as much as it used to.

What a shit show. Not much has changed since Friday which is not surprising because its taped. Basically worse case the Sen DEMs will introduce a bill to keep taxes lower on middle class and it will be all on the GOP to turn it down. Obama said if the GOP turns it down then the first bill on Jan 4th will be another one to keep taxes lower on the middle class. Therefore looks like the GOP will be in the same place on Jan 4th regardless. What number defines middle class is up in the air (250 or 400k). Basically the GOP is backed into a corner and has no leverage IMHO (not wanting to be political, just informative)

Basically the GOP is backed into a corner and has no leverage IMHO (not wanting to be political, just informative) it is not that the 250 defines the middle class, it does not. That is way above middle class. The issue is the steep increase for the 250k earners equaling the millionaires. Heck, even California has a staggered wealthy tax that they approved retroactively no less.

I tend to believe a higher standard deduction is one first step to save the middle class. This method helps bypass 99.9 of the spaghetti code.
