you're a long-term common-only (these days, i believe you mentioned options in the past) buy-and-holder... great, happy for you that you can take the long-term perspective and wait for the volcano dissipate (though unclear why you'd even care to come here at all, given that the volcano clearly has an outsized effect on apple in the near-term, and you said you don't care to hear or read anything about the volcano)... some of us with shorter-term positions and swings trades don't have the luxury of ignoring the mountain of crap erupting near cupertino! (to clarify, i also have a long-term stock position but have swing trades in addition to that long-term position)
It seems like you have a good grasp on how easy it is for a non-Apple event to affect AAPL.
So again, if you are worried that the stock is going to move based on outside events out of your profitability range, then why don't you sell and move into something that is less affected by these known (though the timing is unknown) events?
Don't be stubborn. Just sell, and find something that works better for your time horizon.
Trust me, being stubborn and holding on because you think AAPL is being valued unfairly, when you have a set shorter term time horizon such as in options, doesn't work well. I lost 6 or 7 figure amounts holding out with options. It still would have been a large 6 or more figure loss if I sold earlier once things weren't looking good, but it would have left me with more capital.
So, you know the risk, and expect the high volatility based on non-Apple events to swing the stock dramatically. Why do you continue to hold and get in such a tizzy whenever things don't go the direction you want them to?
(as to why I bother visiting, along with occasionally moderating and running this place, I suppose it's to attempt to share knowledge and learn from others, just as many others do. Thanks everyone!)
