We'll call it an embarrassment of riches, much like our AAPL holdings

I’ll be interested to see what these folks complaining say when one or more competitors copy this feature, as they inevitably will.

I’ll be interested to see what these folks complaining say when one or more competitors copy this feature, as they inevitably will. Didn't hear about that one with the new or older towers, fear of bubbles or holes. But alas, this is mass social culture, where some percent of the people are just trying to get the latest like with humor or shock. Just like grade school with the class clown. There's also some huge subset of the population that is against Apple in general. Maybe it's not as bad anymore, but it's like the Chevy vs Ford thing, where people have sided and won't change. When I read a completely slanted article, as I did this morning on MSFT vs AAPL, I have to remember that. Some people are sided for good reasons. Some are sided just to get eyeballs and reactions. And some are sided because of a deep rooted disdain that has been there so long it's almost in their DNA. One of the bloggers (maybe house design or renovation) said the placement, presumably on the Pro, bugged his OCD tendencies. Free press! And if that's the best complaints people can come up with, then Apple really did outdo itself.

Everyone is so cocky because we are 5 bucks above my target. We are one or two twits and one ER from seeing 170. I recall similar euphoria last year at this time. I had losses on my puts today but switched to calls and recovered half. Can’t wait to now get to 75 RSI and short away. spongieeee!!! my fave contrarian indicator is back umm.... no, we're not 5 bucks above your target... we're 105 bucks above your target of $120 (remember that one, from january? you were one of the factors in my decision to bet big and buy calls)
Sentiment changes quickly. Don’t fight the trend. I see 234 next week. MACD very bullish with RSI looking to hit close to 80 next week. That will be my target to buy Nov puts. Bought more calls this morning. Already recovered my losses from Tuesday and will be very positive in 24 hours. So I should have a nice pile to go short next week. you're predicting an actual, honest-to-goodness ATH next week? and you bought more calls betting on that?
oh nooooo... i have to sell more now

AppleCare+ subscription could see Apple making twice the moneyThis flexibility can add quite a bit more money coming in from AppleCare. One of the comments on the above page made me aware and excited about a feature I didn't know. Here's the comment: -------------- I have had the iPhone X since release day and I paid 2 years Apple Care upfront. Now Apple just told me that I will be able to switch to the monthly coverage and stay on it indefinitely. I am delighted. I don’t care how much money Apple makes — I have a beautiful, spotless phone with years of life left and I want to keep using it until a major redesign, without fear that a single drop could cost me $500 in repair costs. Before I discovered this, I was contemplating upgrading to the 11 Pro, but I would have done so very reluctantly, since there isn’t much to justify upgrading from an iPhone X — at least not for me. That — having to either upgrade or face the $500-a-drop repair fees — would have felt like a racket. Instead, paying ~$4 a month for ongoing coverage and support feels like a win for me, for the environment and for the fruitsellers themselves. ---------------

Switching gears a bit from the stock price to products....
Does anyone have any inclination or heard any reasonable sounding rumors about when the next generation of Apple TV will be released? According to Macrumors buyer's guide, it has been 727 days since ATV4 went on sale. I'm asking because I'm thinking of ditching my standard cable plan and signing up for Hulu w/live TV. However, the live TV component apparently only works with ATV4. I have one of those, but I'm curious if it's worth buying another ATV4 for a second tv or waiting for the ATV5 or whatever the next version is. Any thoughts and/or feedback on hulu live tv would be appreciated too. Cheers to the longs!

I presume Apple will be having another event next month to officially kick off TV+ and reveal all the shows that are included at launch, and also to announce the highly anticipated new MBP 16" and maybe the Tile-like tracker. It would be a perfect fit to introduce a new ATV at that time. If they don't, then it's anyone's guess.

OK hold on there a minute, Sparky. As an AAPL stockholder, I'm of course glad that America's favorite investor is on board, but Buffett is a Johnny come lately to Apple and even tech. He's the last guy I'd look to when evaluating a tech CEO. Where was Buffett when the greatest CEO of all time was running Apple?!?! On other fronts, nice to see AAPL buying the news instead of selling it for a change. Plus, our beloved contrarian indicator is yelling "Sell!" this five minutes, so yay. Cheers to the longs.

Perhaps you are correct JD, but Apple is a different company now in different circumstances. Maybe I am wrong, as I don't consider myself to be a great student of large-scale investing, but through much of Jobs's time at Apple it was not typical of the companies that I associate with Mr. Buffet investing in, as you allude to. My intended point was that for him to be currently as enthusiastic about his Apple investment as he appears to be, then he must have a much more sanguine view of Tim's leadership than a certain AFB member has continually expressed. It is perhaps an uninformed or uneducated opinion, but it was not intended to be a comparison between Steve and his hand-picked choice to run Apple after him.

If you don't like the leadership, why would you choose to follow the leadership's style? Quit the name calling, no matter who it's about. We have the choice to build this board up, or tear it down. Make the right choice, or don't post here.

So why did AAPL just take a tumble? Profit taking? There's lots of opinions and factors on this. One is options (talking about weekly options on the week of a big event, like the iPhone announcement or earnings). Speculators speculate, lured in by the hopes of riches if the stock moves a lot. Up or down, some bet on both, maybe looking for a $5-10 move. Maybe they get them for as little as 50 cents, or maybe they pay a few bucks. Either way, if AAPL jumps a lot, they make 200%, or even more. The market digests the news and then moves. But the market is finicky, and so the volume lowers and the directional push stalls. Meanwhile, the big guys who took the other side of the trade don't want to pay out too much, if any. And so they wait for the volume to die down, and then push it a bit. Maybe it's just buying 50k to cover part of their 500k position. But when volume has settled down, that moves the price. Another side is anyone who foregoes options and went straight with shares, and so they were just profit taking like you say. Call them the Days Trader. Either way, the stock moves around, sometimes even without the aid of Twitter. The stock doesn't normally keep moving one way for long. The upside is that it's hard for it to get overheated, such as that RSI of 75 that was called out, if there's a few flat or down days in the mix. We're still in the wait and see timeframe, with no actual numbers. Someone might do a poll, showing that x% plan to upgrade. But then there's the nasty rumors that we haven't seen for 9 months, of such and such supplier said they have an order cut. Fun times. Or maybe it's all getting old. "Kids, back when I first started investing, the prices were in fractions!"
