FWIW: IMHO: I have listened to the first 15 "1 minute speeches" from the House of Rep. today. The bill will not pass. I'll take the other side of that prediction

I'll take the other side of that prediction GOP Leader Eric Cantor tells reporters he does not support the Senate bill. If it passes, might be with a plurality of Dems. Could cost Boehner speakership.

I don't understand. Can the House vote if Cantors does not support the bill? Does the bill need the Boehner's support in order to have a vote?

Maybe Boehner will come up with Plan C

Speaker Boehner made a verbal commitment to bring anything the Senate passed up for a vote in the House, after the Plan B debacle. Can he violate that commitment?

Maybe Boehner will come up with Plan C To steal Charles Krauthammer's joke, Plan C was the Mayan Apocalypse. I don't understand. Can the House vote if Cantors does not support the bill? Does the bill need the Boehner's support in order to have a vote? Cantor is Majority Leader. He's caucasing with the GOP rank-and-file. They are hearing from constituents who are not happy with this increase taxes and spending plan. Maybe Cantor is eying speakership. For the record, I hate the plan too, but I love my portfolio more, so I am torn.

Cantor just announced House won't pass Senate fiscal cliff bill, will amend first. Senate already had said they are done, won't take up an amended bill.
Here come some red futures.

I'd break out the popcorn, but I think I'll stick with the antacids in case of market upchucking.

West Wing Reports @westwingreport: As I suggested earlier, might pass with GOP minority, Dem plurality. Pelosi would probably have to initiate such a vote.

I think that would take a discharge petition that would need to be signed by a majority of House members. If it became clear that a majority would sign it, the GOP leadership might allow it to come to the floor. Lots of drama. About 2/3rds of our self-managed money is in dividend growth stocks. I am not making any changes to that porfolio. Have a little cash left that I might spend on a big red day. Have been adding positions for the past two weeks and have spent much of the cash in these accounts.

This is going to get ugly. Unfortunately, Harry Reid seems to think he is above negotiating with the most representative body, the one empowered by Article I to originate tax bills (the two concepts are related, if counterproductive). So yeah, my guess, little chance any tax cliff compromise is passed by tomorrow's open. The only good news is that I missed the AAPL pop WRT some LEAP positions I wanted to enter, so I might get another bottom. #SilverLining

i.e., Thursday, the 113th Congress takes over, and all outstanding 112th bills die.

I have been disgusted with Rieds refusal to bring bills to the floor the last two years, if Boehner refuses to bring this to the floor I will be equally disgusted. Have I mentioned that I hate politicians.

Here is what GOP Senator Lindsey Graham said "“Do the best you can, make it (the cliff deal) better if you can, but here’s reality: Right now all tax rates have gone up on all Americans,” the South Carolina Republican said. “You need to understand this: If we don’t get this tax rate problem fixed for all Americans, the economy is going to collapse, the stock market will go down, the Defense Department is going to become unraveled.” He continued: “We’re going to get blamed and about two weeks into this, we’ll fold like a cheap suit. …"

They make the most wanted products in the world ... you can read the article on Business Insider about the theft in Paris of $1.3million in AAPL products from their store on New Year's Eve - but would prefer you not give them the click. Meanwhile Bloomberg also made a comment about theft being up in NYC on AAPL products. It really is a phenomenon -- do you ever hear this about Android or Samesung? And yet you have idiots like Steve Grasso who get up and say they love their Samesung phone better than their iPhone just so that he can scalp a few on his short. Ah...the injustices of the liberal media on this and so much more. Happy 2013 all! I believe the media has a strong liberal bias, but I don't think that bias extends to Apple products/AAPL in particular. I think the greater influence in writing about Apple/AAPL is to line their pockets, and liberals and conservatives are alike in this respect.

I wonder if that "vote present" option is being bandied about.

Boehner is on record for vowing to bring the bill to a vote. But Cantor just sharpened his knife, the #2 guy clearly eyeing the Speakership. Watch out for the blood!

CNBC:
Prediction: Cover vote for GOP members. Then the unmodified Senate bill passes with Dem plurality.

Two tweets coming thru just now:
GOP House member: whip count will show amended Senate bill w/more spending cuts can't pass. "We'll put Senate bill on floor. It will pass"
Buzz among House GOP is that Boehner is getting what he needs on the floor right now. Not everything. Not perfect. But no total revolt.
And lastly: 7:15:35pm - The House recessed. The next meeting is subject to the call of the Chair

The bill will be voted on as an up or down vote - and it will pass and I am guessing that it will pass by an overwhelming majority except for the usual suspects like we had in the Senate.
