Debt ceiling is of much greater impact than the band-aid bill. Here's hoping that both the markets are getting better inoculated against this brinksmanship stuff, and that things will proceed with maybe 5% less acrimony and wrap up even a full day before these stupid deadlines.
If not for all the spleen-venting by the grandstanding Congresspeople that they have to/want to do (standard procedure to get it all on record, I s'pose), this bill would've been passed at _least_ 15 minutes ago. (/sarcasm)
The deal's gettin' done and from my portfolio's standpoint, that'll have to be enough for the next little while.

One of the great mysteries of C-SPAN...time runs out, but votes keep trickling in.
Well there's some political intrigue value in the voting record for those interested (me, a little), if nothing else.
Band aid bill just passed. (CNN live feed)

Let's start the BBQ. We got some AAPL bears and shorts to roast! (I hope.)

Anyone up for pizza? Maybe I'll go get one to celebrate the milk cliff fix.

In 2 1/2 hours we will see US Futures get updated. I'm not staying up for the event. Tonight's vote, although procedural in nature, assures that an agreement will pass, and the markets will respond accordingly.

The capita l gains and dividend treatment in the tax act should help bring retail investors back to Apple...especially value investors...

The capita l gains and dividend treatment in the tax act should help bring retail investors back to Apple...especially value investors... Why will increased taxes on Apple profits entice people to buy up Apple?

I thought they're going up, to be capped at 20%. Better than many feared, if nothing else.

I thought they're going up, to be capped at 20%. Better than many feared, if nothing else. You have to be making $400,000 as a single guy to see 20%. The retail investor can now reinvest in companies like Apple with less fear of adverse tax treatment. Many who sold in the past few weeks to lock in the 15% rate will return....

There have been many reasons given for the drop in AAPL, tax selling was the one I disliked the most. There are 950 million shares outstanding and I bet less than 60 million shares have actually been sold over the last few months. I know someone is going to say something about daily volume, but they do not understand that most of that is just machine trading back and forth. The net is measured each day and the dollar amount is nothing compared to the daily volume.

Thats good news, but I think those with well over $400K in annual income from aapl profits were selling. So I doubt the little guy was selling to save taxes. Most likely they were selling to meet margin calls or just get out with their losses. I don't see the little guy moving the stock up. The hedge funds got out but they are taxed as income tax. When aapl hits 750 by March 8 and I sell my April calls, I guess I will qualify for higher dividend taxes 2013. ;D
