www.reuters.com/article/us-china-economy-consumption/chinas-golden-week-consumer-spending-offers-economy-rare-respite-idUSKBN1WM1OVThe “Golden Week” break, which started with National Day on Oct. 1 and ended on Monday, provides an important snapshot of Chinese consumers and tourists and their changing tastes and habits.
Overall revenue from retail and dining during the period rose 8.5% from a year earlier to 1.52 trillion yuan ($212.6 billion), helped by higher sales of white goods and increased spending on tourism and entertainment, state media reported, citing data from the commerce ministry. That compares with a drop of 6.7% during the National Day holiday last year, the only decline since at least 2009 when the data became publicly available.

Thursday is the US+China trade meeting. That day’s tweet will call for either a BTFD or a Wheeee.

Given that the article said "According to police, the suspect was wearing full body armor and armed with an assault rifle", I'll take that wager. Who do you think is lying, the police or the press?

Given that the article said "According to police, the suspect was wearing full body armor and armed with an assault rifle", I'll take that wager. Who do you think is lying, the police or the press? I usually don't call people who post from ignorance liars, though I do question the duplicity of the MSM and many Police Chiefs when it comes to the attempt to form the opinion of the masses when it comes to guns. Unless the perp used a full automatic M-16 or M1 or a rifle of that category it was not an assault rifle. Are you one of the ones who think that the AR in AR-15 stands for assault rifle? That would be wrong, an AR-15 (Armalite Rifle) is not an assault rifle. The AR-15 functions no differently than my Remington model 760 semi-automatic deer rifle and is less powerful. Unless you have information that indicates that the rifle the perp used was a select fire full auto you have lost the bet. Here is the definition of an assault rifle before the definition was subverted and it is still the accurate description no matter what the media says. Thanks for asking. Assault rifle An assault rifle is a selective-fire rifle that uses an intermediate cartridge and a detachable magazine. Assault rifles were first used during World War II. Though Western nations were slow to accept the assault rifle concept, by the end of the 20th century they had become the standard weapon in most of the world's armies, replacing full-powered rifles and sub-machine guns in most roles. Examples include the StG 44, AK-47 and the M16 rifle. The AR-15 is not a military weapon in anyway other than looks and was never considered one until some ignorant person decided that the AR stood for assault rifle and the ignorant mainstream media co-opted the nomenclature. I grant you that the media, general population, law enforcement administrations, many dictionaries and all anti-2nd Amendment sites have adopted the term, but factually they are wrong and are pursuing an agenda. Calling an AR-15 an assault rifle used by the military is simply not accurate. I will agree that if looks alone could kill the AR-15 might be a good military rifle but looks are kind of like words------they will never harm me. This is really not a discussion for the daily thread so drop down to the dungeon and I will be glad to explain further. I realize that many consider this discussion politics and I apologize, but I hate to see misinformation spread on a subject that is clearly important to many.

But I suspect that you are one of the prissy little gun aficionados who has a perfectly anal description of exactly what an assault rifle consists of.

That's cute, coming from the side of the aisle that wants to make "misgendering" the mentally ill a felony, not to mention all the other PC terms you prissy little betas want to force down society's throat. Such tough talk from libs who would pee themselves if ever confronted by a violent criminal. You libs love to play semantics until you're discussing something you know nothing about, yet presume to be qualified to ban. Then it's "dur hur fully-automatic revolver assault weapon". Molon labe.

...which means, basically "come and take them." The police reported it as a man armed with an assault rifle. I assume that they know enough about the subject to have used the term to communicate the general level of potential violence by the perpetrator. None of this argument has anything to do with Apple. The point was that a man with a weapon attempted to rob an Apple Store and was intercepted by the police, who saw the potential level of violence as substantial. That's it. Please, PLEASE, PLEASE...let's try to keep discussions and disagreements in this forum to things that are of and about Apple or AAPL. If you want to veer off into political or other subjects that are unrelated, either take it the Dungeon or start a different thread, such as "Do the police really understand the potential violence associated with every weapon?".
