For those that think the iPhone is overpriced, there's at least one person excited about the new Razr at double the price with old HW and SW. www.cnn.com/2019/11/14/tech/motorola-razr-review/index.htmlI guess they must just be charging a lot to pay for the R&D while thinking they won't sell many units? I do like the idea of a smaller footprint while keeping a large total screen area. While that has been the goal of a foldable screen, it has always seemed like a flip phone of some sort would be an answer, if you could make it work well. To me, working well would be fairly seamless, but also having a small screen available at first, but opening out to a big one, while using that smaller screen. That makes it more one of those funky slider phones than a flip phone. But maybe screens get so small/light/inexpensive that you don't care of having spare screens, an initial one on the outside that does simple stuff (clock/phone/viewfinder) while you fold it open for the inner ones, which then are also protected most of the time. I do wonder how even a hinge will hold up over time, based on today's phone usage vs the past. It could be like a TV remote, where a battery holder works fine, until you have a fidgety user who sits there opening/closing it, again and again and again and again... But just as likely, or more, is that this all goes away sometime in the future as we move to a different viewpoint, say of AR glasses or even an implant, since a projection or hologram would have issues. If AR glasses did most of the display job, while the supercomputer stayed in your pocket or purse, then the screen size wouldn't matter much until trying to share the display.

Patently Apple has an interesting alternative that leverages devices you may already own in Apple Patent reveals a new Audio System designed for their Entry Level Visual Headset that can use AirPods. Obviously, a fully integrated device should be superior in the long run. But this could provide valuable real-world feedback that would inform the development of the final product, and Apple’s growing silicon expertise will drive the eventual integration into a single device.
