I received a very nice note from one of the most valued contributors to this forum for many years, lamenting the worthless posts that dominated the forum this week. He no longer finds it worthwhile to participate, as is true of many others who formerly provided the knowledge that encouraged many of us to invest in AAPL, much to our benefit. I commend 4aapl for his stalwart efforts to stem the tide, but the ratio of valuable investment thoughts to political screeds and personal insults has become lamentable. Thanks chinacat, for the comment and for all that you do here. AAPL is at the top of it's game now, erasing a net flat year that included a big dip, coming back to where a decent annualized gain would have taken it, and even chewing upward into a P/E range not seen in 9 years. bigcharts.marketwatch.com/advchart/frames/frames.asp?show=True&insttype=Stock&symb=aapl&time=13&startdate=1%2F15%2F2008&enddate=5%2F18%2F2012&freq=2&compidx=aaaaa%3A0&comptemptext=&comp=none&ma=0&maval=9&uf=0&lf=8388608&lf2=0&lf3=0&type=128&style=320&size=4&x=36&y=15&timeFrameToggle=false&compareToToggle=false&indicatorsToggle=false&chartStyleToggle=false&state=8While there is a lot going on in the government, in the US and abroad, for Apple and AAPL now should be a time of celebration and optimism. At the same time, when things are doing well and riding the top edge, it's easy to let your guard down and not see what could be out there ready to throw a wrench. Likewise, it gets boring, and topics stray. Keep an eye out for the next storm. It will come. Maybe not today. Maybe not tomorrow. But like my quote in Lucky's signature, ""While AAPL could keep climbing from here, I'd more expect a modest pullback, sometime". --4aapl" That goes for both AAPL, and Apple. There will be storms out there. The quicker they are identified, the greater the chance you have to prepare for them...just like trying to convince the masses coming up for a bluebird ski day on Saturday that they should have chains and be prepared for a storm coming in Sunday afternoon. Ahhhh, winter in a ski town. Keep an eye out for hiccups. And lets all work on working together, while attempting to not let the daily thread degrade. Thanks everyone!

There really haven’t been that many political posts lately. And if a “valued contributor” has nothing to contribute despite AAPL hitting new ATH’s almost every day, it sounds a little fishy to me. I’m going out on a limb here and guessing he isn’t a Trump voter and would like to see me banned from AFB for all of eternity. “Oh no, a couple of posts go political every now and then, I do declare, I’m getting the vapors!” 😱 Ridiculous. And frankly, I’m glad that the holier-than-thou tut-tutters like Robert are long gone. I think this board has done quite well without any real moderation for years. Sure we go off the rails once in a while, but to suggest that is the norm is not even remotely accurate. Sorry bruhs, but I think Apple programming blatantly political advocacy shows puts their content into fair play for discussion. 🤷🏻♂️ Some think it is not because merely they happen to agree with the content. OK, dissent is allowed in America. But to attack my masculinity for merely pointing out an honest disagreement with Apple products or services, well sorry/not sorry, I’m not generally a high road type of guy in that particular context. And there is an “ignore jerks” button last time I checked. For the record, I have received several PM’s of support from active members of this forum. That doesn’t mean I’m not occasionally out of line, but it is also a nice argumentum ad passiones. I’ve been wanting to start a blog anyway. 🤷🏻♂️

Agreed....things have been going fairly well here. While keeping it 100% clear might be a goal, it's just not realistic. At the same time, we should attempt to not let things devolve too far. As I said, "And lets all work on working together, while attempting to not let the daily thread degrade." Thanks JD, for your posts and your efforts to stay on track. I enjoy them, even if I may or may not agree with some of it. The AAPL or Apple specific parts are often spot on.

There really haven’t been that many political posts lately. And if a “valued contributor” has nothing to contribute despite AAPL hitting new ATH’s almost every day, it sounds a little fishy to me. I’m going out on a limb here and guessing he isn’t a Trump voter and would like to see me banned from AFB for all of eternity.I don’t think it should take the potential of being banned from AFB to get us to eliminate name calling and scornful remarks from our comments. Some people like a no-holds-barred, back-and-forth with dismissive comments and name calling, but many don’t. I certainly don’t and I think that if the board were like that in 2012, it wouldn’t have survived to this day. You’ve made many valuable contributions to this board over the years, JD, but they’ve not been the ones where you felt the need to mock members or groups with whom you disagree. I also think that the board has done “quite well without real moderation for years” but, IMO, it’s now doing better with *some* moderation. Sorry bruhs, but I think Apple programming blatantly political advocacy shows puts their content into fair play for discussion. 🤷🏻♂️ Some think it is not because merely they happen to agree with the content. OK, dissent is allowed in America. So discuss it…dissent. But doing it with personal attacks and mockery dilutes your message, IMO, and prevents many people from considering your comment with an open mind. But to attack my masculinity for merely pointing out an honest disagreement with Apple products or services, well sorry/not sorry, I’m not generally a high road type of guy in that particular context. And there is an “ignore jerks” button last time I checked. You’ve never struck me as a person who would find an “attack on your masculinity” the least bit threatening, however, I readily acknowledge that I may not be as good at reading people as I thought I was. For the record, I have received several PM’s of support from active members of this forum. That doesn’t mean I’m not occasionally out of line, but it is also a nice argumentum ad passiones. I’ve been wanting to start a blog anyway. 🤷🏻♂️ Most AFB members wouldn’t be surprised at that and many could probably make some pretty accurate guesses about the usernames of those who PM’d you. But if I were to post a comment on AFB, with unnecessary words or remarks included just to piss off a member or ridicule a group and I got PM's of support, that obviously wouldn't make it OK. The bottom line is that none of us really *need* AFB to survive as an active forum. My wife and I were investing in AAPL for 11 or 12 years before I happened upon this board in 2012, just before it moved from MacObserver. We were AAPL Longs *before* I found AFB and if AFB folded tomorrow, we'll still be AAPL Longs. But I do readily admit that I enjoy this board so much I visit several(OK, maybe 5 or 6) times during the day. There's something very valuable about sharing comments and links with others that find Apple Inc. a compelling investment and I appreciate seeing posted links that I otherwise may have missed. It's a great place to commiserate with other members when the share price pulls back and to celebrate the momentum and ATH's that we've experienced over that last few months. Cheers to the AAPL Longs and here's hoping AFB continues to be an important information and commenting site for AAPL investors for a long, long time!!

Been around this board since probably 2005 and it's still fun to banter. Political stuff is silly, but a true part of following the fruit company now, because of their size and influence. I always appreciate an injection of a tidbit of global politics, because yes, there are politics going on in the UK and Australia and the EU and Japan and China. I try to remember that any USA political banter is met with eye rolling and confusion by members around the world. Personal comments and 'attacks' are just ignorant. Is it true? Is it necessary? Is it kind? Always a good set of filters. A little wink and tongue-in-cheek works wonders. Be excellent to each other, and party on...
