Well, the first intraday thread that I am starting. Hopefully it turns out as a green day.
Something interesting to read from macrumors.com:
Just over a year ago, Apple acquired Israeli flash memory firm Anobit, and now that Anobit founder and CEO Ariel Maislos has left the company to start his next venture he has been able to share some details on his experiences with Apple. ZDNet covers an interview with Maislos at a recent meeting of the Israel Semiconductor Club, an event where Maislos shared details about how the acquisition came about and how Apple's culture compares to that of Intel, another company Anobit had worked closely with.
(...)
Maislos contrasts the culture and expectations at Apple with those of Intel, which had previously invested $32 million in Anobit during an earlier financing round, noting that Apple's return from the brink of bankruptcy in the late 1990s has instilled expectations of excellence that simply don't exist at Intel.
"While Intel engineers are given assignments and are rewarded for ingenuity and creativity, he said, it's a given at Apple that engineers will be at the top of their game. "At Apple, you have to run ahead just to stay in place, and there are very high expectations of everyone. Apple expects everything you do to be amazing.
"That is not the case at Intel, where no one expects you to be 'amazing'," said Maislos, although Intel does reward those who give their "A+ game".
Maislos went on to note that Apple is extremely focused on its goals, demanding much more personal excellence than Intel or perhaps any other tech company.
Maislos is of course not a neutral observer, given the close relationship he has had with Apple and the exit it provided for Anobit's founders, but his comments do provide a small glimpse at how an experienced outsider transitioning from partner to employee views Apple's culture.

Interesting to note that Dialog Semiconductor, who derive a large percentage of their revenue from supplying components to the iPhone and iPad, have said it expects stronger than anticipated revenue growth for the quarter and full year, underpinned "by a strong late surge in demand for smartphone and tablet products". www.dialog-semiconductor.com/docs/investor/dialog_q4_2012-trading_update-eng-final.pdf?sfvrsn=2Apparently the last time they raised their guidance was last January and we all remember what Apple did that quarter... However Gene Munster has just trimmed his PT to $875 from $900 (GM hit).

From Patently Apple:
After Apple's CEO met with China's Minister of Industry and Information Technology, It's being reported by China's Sin Tech media that Tim Cook stated that China is Apple's second-largest market, and it is set to become the largest in the near future. Cook believes that the number of its stores in China will far exceed 25 which would translate into more than tripling today's 8. He would also love to see China become one of the first countries to sell its new products. The company has been cooperating with the approval process to shorten the period between the marketing in China and the developed markets. Tim Cook added that he deeply respected China Mobile, who they've been quietly working with for the past four years. Once that partnership kicks in Apple's largest Market will indeed be China.

And from Reuters:
(Reuters) - Apple Inc's Chief Executive Tim Cook met with China Mobile's Chairman Xi Guohua on Thursday to discuss "matters of cooperation," a China Mobile spokesman said, raising hopes that a deal between the two tech giants may move forward.
"In the morning, Apple's CEO Tim Cook visited China Mobile's headquarters. China Mobile's Chairman Xi Guohua and Tim Cook discussed matters of cooperation," said Li Jun, a China Mobile spokesman, in an emailed statement.
No further details will be given due to a confidentiality agreement signed, the statement said.
Apple, which has deals with China Unicom and China Telecom to sell its iPhones in China, has yet to strike a deal with China Mobile, the world's largest mobile carrier by subscribers."
Wish he could just GET IT DONE!

CNBC pimping their new CNBC alarm clock app for iphone this morning.
How do we best game this effort?
There is no Android version at this time, so maybe we can download and then when they mention how popular it is they have to keep saying iPhone - iPad...
Of course if that ^%#*# Melissa Lee were to wake me up, I'd likely smash my phone at the sound of her voice. For a Harvard grad, she's pretty dumb.

It's iPad's infamous "new toilet". All you need do is write EW on the side. ;D YES!!! LOL!!! Love you, Birdie! (Note: above refers to Chinese proverb from Mace re: "new toilets losing their appeal after a while." I keep telling Birdie that EW is my new toilet that has not yet lost its appeal, and he is kind enough to indulge me even though he thinks EW is bunk...since his EW toilet was replaced with Camarilla. )

While it has its merits, all it does is echo other things on my charts. So, in the spirit of trying to simplify things, I stopped using it.

This article does a very good job of delineating the mobile space in the US today. Of particular pleasure, is the author's graph on operating margins, comparing Apple against RIM, Microsoft, Google, and Nokia, located about halfway down the article. ...this article offers readers a view of the mobile battlefield not simply by focusing of platform differences, but by looking into the complete product to illuminate which competitors are in a position to achieve what kind of result from what portion of the mobile gadget market. Although this article seeks to discuss hardware rather than platforms, the connection of some hardware vendors to particular platforms prevents complete separation of the two.

Anyone know what happened to Sir Isaac Newton over on Stocktwits? Did he get shut down? I am afraid that was or is inevitable. Bloomberg will not likely tolerate posting screen shots that are only available via a subscription. Free advertising for them up to a point but they probably won't view it that way.

I've noticed that on a Thursday you often see AAPL get dragged to the current value of weekly max pain in the PM and often at the end of the day too. So, while this looks like it might be a break out, it could be very much options related.

From JD's post last night:
Tuesday and Wednesday night pain was/is 520-524.99. I suspect an up close tomorrow, unless those 520 calls pop.
Stk Calls Puts 515 3,188 6,677 520 6,411 7,331 525 9,504 6,100 530 12,531 4,869
Price thudded, ouched and tried again at 525. A foot in the door. An arm. A torso.
Next thud: 530. Ouchie. Try again?
