Someone is going to have to tell me why we popped over 530 in the span of just a few minutes. I only found this breaking news on Bloomberg: BREAKING NEWS: Nokia Says Earnings at Mobile-Phone Business Beat Its Estimates But why should that be good for Apple? That can't be it. Something is hiding here.

There are two emotions that control Apple - Greed and fear. Greed is showing some sunshine today.

The Reuters article (posted on page 1 of thread) said there was a confidentiality agreement signed between the two companies and although that does not mean a deal will ultimately get done - it implies that perhaps they are closer to something. I believe that may be what is happening here....WAG .. and of course, shorts getting squeezed and stops...works on the way down...and on the way up too.

Quote from another forum I found amusing, love the formula:
You miss the point of this forum It's for the exclusive use of Fandroids to have a little dig at Apple. There are three prerequisites to owning an Android phone 1. Lack of cash 2. Immaturity 3. Lack of social education These 3 items put into a formula give the reason why the Fandroid acts and posts and downvotes the way he does. There is also some Pavlovian conditioning involved. The formula, LC x (I x LSE) = E E is of course Envy.

My favorite quote is from TC himself on a CC when he was questioned on the merits of a "Closed" Architecture or System vs the open Android architecture. Paraphrasing. "We find our customers don't want to be Systems Integrators to be able to use the phone"

This PM rise is not AAPL-specific, guys. Everything's up. Nokia is up 20%, RIMM is up 4%...
I'm certainly not complaining though

Apologies to Roni. While attempting to advance to the next page of this thread, I hit the Smite button by accident. Too bad there is not an "are you sure" dialog before the Smite registers.

my 10 minutes into the trading day WAG: People knew TC was in china yesterday, and the stock still tanked at the close. Sadly it's looking like more of the usual gap & crap now and the confidentiality agreement news was used to boost it up for another slow bleed day. /hopeimwrong

From Nansen
Apple and China Mobile Move Closer To An Agreement
Tim Cook and Xi Gouha, the Chairman of China Mobile, have reportedly signed a confidentiality agreement which is a precursor to a final agreement with China mobile. Tim Cook met yesterday with Miao Wei, China’s head of the Ministery of Industry and Information Technology. The Chinese government has a controlling interest in China Mobile so any agreement between Apple and China Mobile will have to have the approval of the Chinese government. All 3 parties to this agreement have a lot to gain by signing an agreement. The only thing holding an agreement up is the question of money and how the profits will be split between Apple and China Mobile. The Confidentiality agreement is a big step and could well signal an agreement is imminent. The minute an agreement is announced, you will see Apple immediately gap up $50 to $60.

I'm done listening to biased, non-objective opinions. AAPL will not gap up that much on a deal. Setting these lofty expectations is exactly why the last three months have been so difficult on everyone. He said back at the beginning of September that we were unlikely to ever see below 600 again. How did that work out? He's not any better at uncovering and analyzing information that many of you on this board.

Hon Hai, which is better known as Foxconn and also does work for Sony and Nokia, said revenues hit a record high of TW$3.22 trillion ($111 billion). Sales in December were up almost 14 percent on-year at Tw$360 billion, which surprised analysts. "We had expected sales in December to fall by at least 10 percent in the off-peak season," an analyst from a foreign securities firm based in Taipei told AFP. Foxconn is the world's largest computer component manufacturer and assembles products for Apple—including the iPhone—plus Sony and Nokia. The group employs about one million workers in China, roughly half of them based in its main facility in Shenzhen. Since 2010, more than a dozen Foxconn employees in China have died in apparent suicides, which activists blamed on tough working conditions, prompting calls for better treatment of staff.
IMHO: THIS Comparison for the major Apple supplier is very good. If Apple paid $3-6 billion last quarter for CAPEX (more robots), the Foxconn employees are more efficient. AS you recall, the Foxconn employees received a raise last year. At some point Apple is just paying for labor.
