Certainly, there is a huge amount of technical capability behind this welcome effort, but with Google involved the key for me is “Privacy, transparency, and consent are of utmost importance in this effort, and we look forward to building this functionality in consultation with interested stakeholders.”

Strange days ahead. No telling what privacy looks like down the road with this crisis.

May I please make a request of the members? If you're posting information related to coronavirus which you wish to share with other members, and what you're posting has no political comments or implications, please post it to: Coronavirus *Information/Update* Thread - No Politics
If, OTOH, what you're posting *does* have political commentary or implications and *could* possibly irritate another member, please post it to the appropriate thread that's in the Dungeon: Coronavirus Thread
The reason I'm mentioning this is because I've noticed a number of informative posts regarding coronavirus, and containing absolutely nothing political, being posted by members in the Dungeon Coronavirus Thread and I'm concerned some members may not benefit from the information because they purposefully *avoid* the Dungeon.
TIA

I have been thinking about rebalancing my portfolio to be prepared for a post-COVID world. In doing, I have stumbled across a couple of sites that I found useful and would like to pass on. First the approach; I am at the age where income is more important than growth, but I am still not willing to just clip coupons. So, while dividends are important, growth is still desirable. In addition, dividend stability is more important than dividend growth. Our expenses are pretty stable, but we do rely on dividends to produce our MRD. Thus, the overall risk of the portfolio is of prime concern. So..how do you methodically examine the risk of a mix of dividend stocks in your portfolio? One answer is Modern Portfolio Theory. I figure if it is good enough to earn a Nobel Prize, it is better than anything a country boy like me is likely to glean from chat rooms. I will leave it to Wikipedia to explain the theory, but this website will help you apply it to your portfolio: www.portfoliovisualizer.com/efficient-frontier#analysisResultsGood luck and best wishes as you explore the efficient frontier. Once you have a selection of stocks that give you an efficient portfolio, you can get a wonderful visual perspective on the balance of the portfolio at simply wall street: simplywall.st I hope you find these useful

On occasion I have tried to provide informative posts on a private board called AAPL Sanity. 99% of the remaining members there are never TRUMPERS. I consider MOST of my posts in the original CORONOVIRUS thread non political. Some of my charts, I update DAILY on my posts there. Some weekly. Everyone has watched one or all of President Trumps Virus news conferences. You know how the media treats him. HERE is the post where President Obama holds a 4 minute Rose Garden news conference about SWINE flu in September 2009. Some WHO reports between 289,000-579,000 people died of the swine flu. HERE is the first news conference featuring Doctor Anthony Fauci. It is UNBELIEVABLE what we DID NOT know on January 28th, 2020 If you would PLEASE watch the two above HERE videos, I am sure you will be enlightened. I know WHEN this hysteria will end. When the President tells the American people to go on living. When the OWNERS of TV, Radio and newspapers REALIZE they are going out of business. Their advertising revenues are a disaster.

There is nothing today that has not been tainted by politics.. Whether or not I agree with your assessment, the point is that the members of this board determine whether or not that is true here. As noted by Luckychoices, those of us who would like to stay focused on Apple/AAPL, the nominal purpose of this newsgroup, have attempted to provide places for for those determined to turn this into a political forum to have such discussions. However, self-centered know-it-alls such as yourself insist on posting political diatribes in the one place where the rest of us come to leave such excrement behind and discuss our favorite company and investment vehicle. You have been given a playpen/mudhole in which to wallow in your diatribes, but still cannot resist inflicting yourselves on the discussions that the rest of us attempt to keep on point. Please stop.

The first video shows a calm and composed potus addressing and informing citizens about preparations for the h1n1 flu in September which is well before the traditional flu season begins. The second video shows a very late response (almost February) by the hhs Secretary to a pandemic that would strangle the world economy. What am I missing ?

I’ve been a member of the current AFB since September 15, 2012 and before that to the original AFB on MacObserver. Over the years, AFB is always the second thing I look at every morning, after first checking the Apple share price. I’ve taken a fair amount of ribbing about AFB from my younger son, who lives locally to me. Teasing and sarcasm runs in the family, though, so it hasn’t really bothered me all that much. My son thinks it’s *hilarious* that folks like us who invest in AAPL have our own site, usernames, etc. and frequently visit the site to exchange information, commiserate about a drop in share price or celebrate a strong run of the stock. I, however, have always very much enjoyed AFB and it’s not unusual for me to check in 5 or 6 times a day. I’ve always appreciated the contribution many users make, sharing thoughts and links to Apple-related information. For years now, I’ve enjoyed the familiar usernames that could be pretty much depended upon to show up on AFB most days or at least several times a week. Unfortunately, many of those original members have now moved on, for one reason or another. For example, here are the names that showed up over 5 years ago, on Thursday, February 26, 2015 when AAPL traded at 129.29 +0.50 (0.39%) : phoebear611, Since84, BillH, chasmac, macwire, chinacat, rob_london, rickag, Red Shirted Ensign, theirishguy, mace, JDSoCal, artman1033, Luckychoices, hamourabi, cdnphoto, tuffett, firestorm, pauls, Ted, nathanstevens, Odd-Lot Richard, rezonate, Mav, nagrani. That day, there were 3 pages of posts and 24 posters. And here’s *recent* listing of members who posted on Monday, March 30, 2020 when AAPL finished at $254.81 +$7.07: walterwhite, socal Film Composer, 4aapl, JDSoCal, Ted, lulli, Luckychoices, bud777, BillH, hledgard, firestorm, pauls, crispin, podboy, silkstone. Once again, 3 pages for the day but only 15 posters. It’s just 2 samples so nothing meaningful could realistically be deduced from it but it’s undeniable that fewer members post these days and I believe politics may certainly be one thing that has caused some investors to leave AFB. Most members realize that the Dungeon is where people should post politics but there’s always a little spillover. And when politics does spill over, it causes a great deal of extra work for our moderators who, I’m sure, would rather not have to deal with it. Unfortunately, I’ve been contributing somewhat to this problem by visiting the Dungeon too frequently these last three years and posting my own political thoughts and beliefs in response to some of the postings I’ve seen there. But, I’ve always felt that if a person reviews his or her recent postings on AFB and finds that 1/3 to 1/2 or more have been made in the Dungeon, then perhaps they’re forgetting why AFB was created for AAPL investors in the first place_I may have been getting close to that 1/3. Anyway, let’s be clear, it’s not the posting of political thoughts and beliefs to the Dungeon that causes the problem, but rather it’s *responding* to others with whom you disagree and who disagree with what you posted. So what’s the solution for those members, like me, who are tired of getting all worked up because someone is completely wrong on the Internet? :-) They’re weary of taking the time to patiently detail a response to that person, only to have them completely ignore what they so logically and painstakingly pointed out to them? Well, after a recent mini-intervention by my son on FaceTime and with a little input from my wife regarding my blood pressure, I found a solution that was right in front of me all along. I know some of you already use it, and from now on I’ll be using it as well. It’s called “Block Member” and it’s readily available to us all. I’ve seen enough references to it over the years that I knew of its existence, but I really didn’t think it was necessary for me to use. Well, guess what…it is necessary…and it’s wonderful! The only down side is that I still occasionally get glimpses of comments from those that I’ve blocked when some folks that *don’t* have them blocked, quote them in a response. So the only way to make this “Block Member” *perfect*, is for *everyone* to block members with whom they disagree *politically*. You may think blocking is too extreme, but I assure you, it’s not only *not* too extreme it’s the absolutely perfect solution to the AFB political disagreements that are, little-by-little, grinding away at the forum we’ve all enjoyed and stayed with over the years. Try it…you’ll like it!! Here's the location of the blocking pull-down menu. Sorry, 4aapl, I just needed a screen shot. Attachment DeletedAnd here's how wonderful it will be once you apply the blocking to those who so richly deserve it. Attachment Deleted

Ok kids, head outside and take a walk. You've been cooped up inside too long.
No need for this OT stuff here on the AAPL Finance Board.
EDIT: And there's Lucky's post, which I agree with. If there is really someone who you've given multiple chances and still gets you worked up, please just block them. And yes, go ahead and block me, or use a screenshot of such if you need to.
The ham is in the oven. I repeat, the ham is in the oven.
With this interesting Easter, I was happy to procure a ham on my run to the store Thursday morning. We have Facetimed with both grandparents, and our 4th week of homeschooling starts tomorrow, after a week off for "spring break". We'll get past this eventually, but for another couple weeks or so we'll be asked to do our part by staying away from others. Relatively, it's a small thing to ask. And yet, the better job we do, the quicker things can be eased up a bit.
Happy Easer all, whether you celebrate it religiously, or just with an egg hunt and a ham.

And here's how wonderful it will be once you apply the blocking to those who so richly deserve it. I was a member of The Braeburn Group from its inception and I know of one other member on this board that was also a member there. Lucky, you would have loved it. It was totally one sided politically and anyone with an opposing opinion would be ostracized and or removed. It was nothing but an echo chamber. It no longer exists. The AFB was once populated by people that were active traders and would freely exchange their experiences and options. There was a great deal to be learned from others experiences. Today, maybe because we are older and don’t want the risk of trading, but many are in the buy and hold group like yourself and have little to offer other than to buy....and...hold. But the people in our later years do have a great deal to be concerned about, right? Well yes we do. Namely, world events that can destroy one’s life work and financial foundation to the point of no recovery. That danger is not only for traders but also for people such as yourself. So, hide if you like, it’s your money and your life. Enjoy.
