Have a 12.9 iPP (2020) that replaced an iPad Air 2. Excellent device with pencil. . . just waiting for a case from Zugu. (Don't want Apple's magic keyboard)

I may have enjoyed reading the article, but it is behind a paywall and I doubt that it’s worth the subscription.

Great NYT article - we subscribe so I just read it - basically the iPad is the killer hardware for zoom, FaceTime, reading books, and watching streaming content - true on all fronts - I love my iPad Pro - it's an amazing piece of hardware - but really any iPad with a keyboard is an excellent device when the laptop is too much bulk for casual use with a bigger screen than your phone -
also congrats to those who wanted to pull out some $ took some profits last week - we've had 3 up weeks out of the past four, so I figured we'd be in for a down one -

I may have enjoyed reading the article, but it is behind a paywall and I doubt that it’s worth the subscription. That is odd. I read it without a subscription. Sometimes if you just do a search by the title, and get there from Google, then you can read the article. Also, if you are on Safari, and put the article in reader view, it lets you read it. The NYT gives you a certain amount of free articles. It keeps track of that history in the browser data. If you clear out the web data for that site, it thinks you have read no articles, and starts the counter again.

You guys with the iPad Pro's are making me jealous. I am on a 2016 iPad Pro, which is nothing like the Pro of today. Still very functional though.

I think the weight and screen size meets my needs right now. With a elastic strap its easier than handling a book. The NYTimes article opened fully for me also

I'd also add bloomberg, if you swing that way, let's you read for free on a phone in reader mode.

(Don't want Apple's magic keyboard) I use an iPad mini for running my company almost exclusively for years - but every now and then for heavy spreadsheet or image editing, or complex multi-email referencing and editing, I need to whip out my MacBook. But Im looking to replace my MacBook soon. Do you find the IPP with a keyboard lacking in anyway compared to a laptop when doing heavy work like the above? Thanks

I have both Excel and Numbers on my iPad, and to me I don't think they are good enough.

For most of my spreadsheety work, others do the heavy lifting on models or calcs, and I play with variables they’ve provided me within the models, or maybe cut and paste large portions of the sheet. Not too involved with serious excel work for a while.

In general, I still struggle with Numbers and find it cumbersome to do any serious work, quickly. (And even more cumbersome on an iPad.) But for nearly everything else, the iPad is fine.

Grrr, I was having the same problem with Excel vs Numbers. Mac OS 10.15.x drops support for our old copy of Excel, but even firing up Numbers to do a simple calculation was just different enough, and not intuitive. I just expected better. For school work, the kids have been using computers. But for just a FaceTime or Zoom meeting, sometimes the iPad (latest normal version) is enough. Keyboard cases are available on Amazon for under $40, though we're yet to buy one. But an Apple bluetooth keyboard pairs up with it fine, too.

I continue to carry an Apple bluetooth keyboard in my bag for when it is needed. (I actually have both an old one that uses AA batteries and a newer one. I have not decided which I prefer to carry). For my iPads, I prefer a svelte protective case that makes it easy to sit and read, doodle et al. I ordered a Zugu case back in March and am just waiting for the order to be filled. re: Numbers - The ability to create, edit and view formula I find quite cumbersome. With the use of multiple tables it can make the process pretty intuitive once created. . . I just find that it takes too much work to get there.

re: Numbers - The ability to create, edit and view formula I find quite cumbersome. With the use of multiple tables it can make the process pretty intuitive once created. . . I just find that it takes too much work to get there. The sad part is that I was testing software in this group as Numbers was developed, and though I had the most Excel experience by far (we'd use it up to 70 hrs a week the last year of our Chemical Engineering degree, for some pretty complex stuff of 3d temperature profiling of various chemical reactor designs), my boss kept me on Pages instead (which bored me to heck and helped make me leave Apple). I have no idea if I would have been able to have changed anything (Steve was involved, and I had at least one issue that got closed, saying "SJ wants it this way"). But, I had more of a chance that just about anyone. OTOH, I haven't used Excel much in years, and I don't know how much of the issue is just being different than Excel, rather than actually being harder or less intuitive. Alas, it doesn't matter much anymore, to me. But I might downgrade to 10.14, mainly so I can run our older copy of Excel, but also a few other apps like Toast.
