I doubt that the demographic here cares much about TikTok, but iOS 14 caught them red-handed spying on users by reading their clipboard. I don’t think Apple gets enough credit or recognition, for their aggressive pursuit of security and user privacy. It is one of core reasons I would never even think about switching to Android.

ATH week close. Have to believe that the post-WWDC surge will resume next week, absent any egregious political news. That would be nice to see ATH's again (high to Friday's close was nearly a 20 point step back), but it's not just political news that needs to stay quiet. There's the whole economy, and covid stuff, tied at least a little together. We'll see. Looks like Clark County (Vegas) posted huge numbers today, so NV had 1,099 new cases today. That, compared to averaging around 100 a couple weeks ago, and a new high of a little over 400 earlier this week. (EDIT: delayed lab results make it not as bad as first glance. "Clark County saw its largest single-day increase in new cases Saturday with 971 additional COVID-19 cases reported, bringing the county's total to 13,174. More than 240 of those cases were from laboratory reports dated June 23, and more than 380 were from reports dated June 24, according to SNHD." www.rgj.com/story/news/2020/06/27/coronavirus-updates-what-we-know-saturday-reno-las-vegas/3268271001/ ) NV is a strange place, with a lot of small population centers, and just 2 big places, separated by a lot of space. Hopefully new advisements will take that into account. But, broader advisements in multiple states could spook the economy.

There's the whole economy, and covid stuff, tied at least a little together. More than a little! I consider the whole COVID-19 situation to be political, as the lack of leadership from the Federal level has accentuated the political split (and the resulting chaos) across the states. Meanwhile...(to quote Stephen Colbert) Forbes has Apple Just Killed The MacBook As We Know It: ‘Don’t Buy A Mac’ Is Good Advice — MacBook Pro, MacBook Air On Hold. We desperately need a new iMac, and unfortunately the same advice holds there, as Ming-Chi Kuo says that one more round of Intel iMacs is due before the switch to ARM. c|net had First take: With iOS 14, Apple changes the very idea of an app. I expect to see AAPL get back on track this week, although the Senate hearings could throw a monkey wrench into the works.

Just a housekeeping note: shouldn't the thread title show a positive percentage (+1.12 instead of -1.12).

Thanks a lot for this article. Sinofsky is a world-class thinker. I have always respected him a bunch. Hearing his thoughts on Apple’s incredible execution is enlightening.

While we are discussing privacy, I thought this an under-reported piece: Apocalypse Now: per WWDC, the IDFA is deadMea culpa in advance if this story was already posted. The TL;DR version is, Apple is switching Limit Ad Tracking to opt-out instead of opt-in, which will likely mean that, going forward, 90%+ of iOS users will not be trackable by the unique mobile advertising identifier (aka IDFA). Right now it seems the numbers are reversed (90% don't take the trouble to select "limit ad tracking"). OK, good for privacy, long overdue, but the lawyer in me (and the author of the article) thinks that this is Apple's plan to re-enter the ad business, a $240B spend in 2020. Yes that's a "B". So why is my lawyer radar going off? Because I think Apple is concerned about antitrust regulators if it just unilaterally killed the IDFA with a software update, and then 800lbs gorilla'd its way into the ad biz. This way, it's done by individual end users deciding they want privacy. And, oh by the way advertisers, Apple Search Ads are expanding, and can still identify individual users to some degree (more accurately, it identifies search words, if I am not mistaken). So Apple is effecting a paradigm shift in how online ad revenues are spent and targeted. IMO, it is LONG overdue that Apple takes a big slice of the 12-figures in ad revenues being earned on its mobile platforms by the likes of Google and Facebook. I never understood why Apple killed iAd, and ceded all that money to Google, but this expansion of Apple Search Ad seems to be the answer. Instead of competing, Apple is changing the entire game and where its played. This is an existential threat to Google, and a potentially substantial revenue needle-mover, at a time when hardware growth has slowed. Remember, for Google, Android - and their pathetic attempts at selling mobile devices - exist entirely as vectors for data collection and ad revenue. That's the main Google business model. It's like when the console makers sell Playstations and XBoxes at a loss, in expectation of making money on games down the road. Except in this case, Google gives away Android so it can sell you to advertisers. The irony being, iOS users are worth more to advertisers. And Google makes a metric fuckload doing this. So let's steal that revenue, because Google is evil and deserves it. *** ***
*** And the Sinofsky piece linked here is good inside baseball stuff.

Like all the AAPL Longs on AFB, I've been pleased to see the strength of AAPL's surge over the last several weeks...but I believe the market's optimism is vastly premature. I'm posting this in the W/E, instead of the Dungeon, because my concern, in this case, is not at all political, it's reality. I'm including just two of the many indications I've seen over the last two days which tell me that the world and this country in particular have a long way to go before the coronavirus pandemic is no longer a concern to the health of our citizens or to our economy. The enclosed screen shots show the conditions in Arizona but many, many states are seeing increases in COVID-19 cases, including my state, California. The present market conditions are ideal for traders that depend on large share price movements in either direction to make profit, but for those who invest for the long term, I believe the market will continue to be unpredictable for some time unless we see much more favorable trends in our immediate future. Cheers to the AAPL Longs!!! But be careful out there...

Microsoft retail may just be an irrelevant blip now when you read their ‘about’ statement. But sure, cheers to a little schadenfreude.. (emphasis mine)
