Every CEO is going to be different. I'd say it's hard to pin market-disruptive products on the CEO, but while I know SJ had a lot of input on those things, I don't know how much of that was actually the ah-ha moments, vs picking out or steering to what would work, vs the driving force once things were moving. Once a company is above a certain size, there is some separation. And then there is the whole thing of both Apple but the whole tech market being much bigger and different than ~2 decades ago. Even with the iPod (2001-2002), a lot of what many would call "incremental changes" happened over the years, and for most intents and purposes, it changed into the iPhone. OTOH, accessories still keep the focus on the main unit, and Apple does try to keep focus, saying "no" to lots of things. Thinking back to the parallel of the iPhone coming out, it seems like the Apple Watch is coming of age, adding enough things to make it more interesting to more of the masses. And AirPods? Wow, I had no idea about it making up more than half of all headphones in 2019, though I'd be curious to see the qualifiers on that. Given the influx of cheap bluetooth ones, it seems that would be tough even just in the wireless group, but possible in the wireless earbud group.

Any thoughts on the executive order banning wechat and tiktok? As I understand it, wechat is the primary app used in China. If iPhones in China are prevented from using wechat (either by the Us govt or in retaliation by the Chinese govt) iPhone sales in China could be at severe risk.

Ouch! Time for Tim to give Donnie a call, if he hasn’t already.

Does anyone know anything about a memory leak (right term?) in Apple Music? I have 16GB of memory on my 2019 27" iMac and keep getting messages about being out of system memory. A little window pops up and shows how much memory is being used by each open application. Music is clearly the culprit with its sky high usage so I quit it, reopen it and the problem goes away until the next time.

Appears to be a problem with the artwork function. Having said that, this bug has been around for quite some time and hasn't been fixed by the software team. Ugh!

Trademark owners must diligently protect their trademarks from infringement and other misuse, or risk losing them. Apple lawyers - of all people - should be encouraged to aggressively protect the look and feel of Apple's intellectual property.

What would one say about that.

From first hand knowledge, my former wife is Chinese. WeChat in China is everywhere. By far the dominant application ! ! Messaging, phone, pay bills, video calls.

WeChat’s parent company is Tencent which owns Epic Game (FortNite, League Of Legend) and part owner of Activision (Call of Duty). Tencent also has a stake in Tesla, Reddit, Snap, Spotify, Universal Music, etc.

I hope Apple will add Tencent like low friction (to the user) financial services features to an upgraded Apple Pay + experience; with strong privacy and security. Revolut looked like an acquisition candidate, back in Oct 2019. Yet, their effort to scale has led to significant customer support and satisfaction challenges. “https://apps.apple.com/us/app/revolut-radically-better/id932493382 Stars 4.8, 16.4K Ratings reviews. Maybe Apple can buy them for Apple Pay + service. www.revolut.com/en-US”
