It's amazing how many negative articles are out there right now, at least on the iPhone stock app news. A whole lot of "the iPhone peaked years ago" and "the iPhone announcement didn't go as planned for China", where it only streamed from Apple and not on a bunch of other sites that were going to have it. It is more of a steady state product now in the US, like a refrigerator. But that doesn't mean sales growth is dead. They can capture it from competitors, as they continue to do. They can capture extra through a shortened refresh cycle, as people want to upgrade sooner for whatever reason. They can capture part of a different segment, such as with the SE. All are great. Of course this is coupled with much different overseas markets, some of which are nearly brand new (India), even if they may have much different characteristics. But writers and analysts have to get the eyeballs, and they know what sells. Now's the time for plausible sounding doubt, whereas earnings is only about 2 weeks away and that gives time for the next wave of news, plus stories about no one standing in line for the iPhone. How long would an iPhone line from 5+ years ago be, if everyone had 6 feet of space? Times change for some things, but FUD still sells.

I agree, but just as important IMHO is the expansion and diversification of the product catalog. Not only does that mean an ability to appeal to a broader audience, but also to sell more to each user who can afford it. And in particular, the services help to flatten out the seasonal curve.

Huh? That's strange. As is the "no AC adapter" thing, which makes sense in concept, but how many people have the AC adapter with a USB-C port on it, instead of the USB2 ones that so many had. Our new iPad came with one, and the newer MacBookAir. But we don't have a full shelf of them, whereas our 6-8 USB2 ones sometimes all get used or go missing, thanks to things like $30 "smartwatch" gifts from the grandparents needing them, along with just about anything with a battery (old iPod, old iPhone, helicopter, RC Car remote, etc). Progress! It sucks sometimes. I think a year or two of pushing out higher powered AC adapters, along with wireless cables, would have been nice before axing them. OTOH, it was taxes time today. Luckily they were pretty easy, even if I spent too much time adding deductions only to have it want me to take the standard deduction, and thus not get to use margin costs. No matter, they will be worth a lot more against the current 2020 bill, and one never knows with certainty about further out. Nice that AAPL could get barely into the green. I always like Green Apples better than Red Apples.

As a follow-up to our recent 5G discussion, I came across a reference to Verizon's 5G strategy, which sounds somewhat similar to the approach that JDSoCal mentioned recently. As a Verizon subscriber, I'll be keeping my eye on this while I ruminate on which new iPhone to request for Christmas .
