Friday, at last. The pre-market is red this morning at -$2.17 at the moment. Let’s see what happens.

Well, I did my part. Got up at 5am and ordered the big blue iPhone Pro Max and a 4 HomePod Minis. I have to say, that was the easiest opening day pre-order experience I’ve ever had and I am one of those geeks who has done this every year since original iPhone. I was in and out in less than a minute (insert super classy joke here?).
Now, if AAPL could go up a couple of cents today and pay for it all it’d be appreciated. 😬

Kudos to Kuo for inventing a whole new category of FUD. There was a time when we competed with other manufacturer's actual products, then when they could not keep up, we had to compete with what they were thinking about building. Now Kuo is saying Apple should compete with future products that Apple might build. I only have a limited amount of time. Instead of reading columns on 9to5mac, I am going to wait and read their real good end of year columns. Or maybe not.

All 3 are about the camera. Bigger aperture (lower light needs), more elements (less distortion), and autofocus (in ultra wide). We do buy or upgrade our iPhones in part due to camera improvements, though we aren't as dedicated as Aapltini. It's the camera in our pocket, and by offsetting our upgrades we can also improve our best camera, important for that xmas or vacation pic on times when we are both there. But the big questions are if these improvements could actually meaningfully change purchasing (sure it's something people are happy to have and say is a reason to upgrade, but if they are going to upgrade anyways and so it doesn't actually add an extra sale that wouldn't have otherwise happened, then it doesn't really ADD to sales), and if this causes people to delay purchases, thus taking a hit on 12 sales. We'll see. Bigger, better, faster, more. Personally if I was trying to find a potential reason to wait, it would be on the power a new technology (5G) often needs over a later chip, but that's just based on past cellular/wifi/bluetooth chips and very well might not really be a thing. But, the opportunity cost of waiting a year to upgrade, if you're ready to upgrade, is huge. Instead, buy a 12 now and get to use the new technology for a year before worrying too much about if new year's model is going to be better...even though you know it will be. AAPL was holding up there a lot better than the earlier premarket, but it has now taken a step down. A few days of big green was getting me a little too greedy for even more.

This could very well be an area where Apple benefits from Apple silicon. Knowing what demands future products will place on the chips can influence their design trade-offs. I would expect that Apple has taken the demands of 5G into their chip designs, even if not optimal on the first go-round.

Earlier this year, we had some road trip content. I had a second one and ended up getting my car impounded for an entire week, due to “Excessive Speeding”. The less said about that the better.
I just noticed a new show on Apple TV+ called Long Way Up, which tells the story of Ewan McGregor and a friend riding prototype electric Harley’s from the Southern tip of South America all the way to LA. Looks epic from a road trip perspective. 13,000 miles. Anyone seen it?

They're accompanied by a skilled drone operator, an ample support team and a couple of prototype electric trucks. Great series!
