I much prefer touch ID to face, which is why I am looking at upgrading to the SE instead of the 12. It would be great if they could embed it in the screen into perpetuity.

Not sure what you mean. I like face ID because I do not have to touch the screen at all. I must say that when I get in trouble on the phone, I miss the touch ID button. I do like the idea of making touch id on the entire screen.

Otherwise, decorum will hit the gutter again. Can’t have that.

I’m enjoying the TouchID embedded in the power button for the iPad Air 4. I’d love to see the same in future iPhones, if the through-the-display TouchID sensor doesn’t work out. Maybe even if it does. Under the screen TouchID might be harder to find the sweet spot for reading your fingerprint.

It is super convenient to just look at the phone for authentication. Especially when I switch to an app that requires another authentication. You have the security combined with the convenience of basically doing nothing.

It is super convenient to just look at the phone for authentication. Especially when I switch to an app that requires another authentication. You have the security combined with the convenience of basically doing nothing. It all depends on the situation, and if you ever are in one where the method can't work. For Face ID, it doesn't work with a mask. It doesn't work with ski goggles. It might not work with a bike helmet/glasses. Sometimes it doesn't work with angles if you didn't set it up that way. And you have to look at it directly. For Touch ID, you can't have gloves on. It doesn't work if your hands are wet (ie just washing them and not perfectly dry). It doesn't work if you hands are overly dry, including if they are pretty cold or it's pretty cold out. Both are great when they work right. Personally, Touch ID worked more consistently for me, but that's mainly in comparison to Face ID having issues with ski goggles and face masks. If I could put it in a lower security mode for most things (ie log in, but not run updates or do major things), which would be allowed while wearing a mask or goggles, I'd be pretty happy with it. But there are times it is annoying actually having to raise it and look at it, as opposed to just putting my finger on it. While I don't yet have an Apple Watch, personally I would think Apple could tie it to one, giving a choice to auto log on if within 6 feet, and when the watch hasn't been taken off (heart rate detection). But all things have risks, and people have preferences. Though most people at times have the Face Mask issue these days, not everyone hits the googles issue very often. I can hear them making snow, and we just had our first moderate snow with more on the way, just enough to test out some of the snow blowers. Today was the day to pull out all the gear and see what things we have for the constantly growing kids. It's on my mind a bit.

This can be done on the Mac now. For whatever reason, they have not extended it to other devices.
