Sounds like you will be an early adopter then. Looking forward to your thoughts. Hmmm, I really want a 16 inch pro model ... not yet. Maybe I'll settle for a 13 inch pro model, but I can't see any major differences between the air and the 13 inch pro other than some battery life. The Pro has the Touch Bar; better audio input (what they’re calling a “studio mic array”); and all configurations have 8 cores in the M1. It has fans and there must be a reason for that based on running at higher performance but that’s as yet unclear. The Air has function keys instead of the Touch Bar; standard audio mic(s); and the least expensive base configuration has an M1 with 7 cores instead of 8; you need to bump up the price to get 8 cores. And there are no fans.

And there are no fans. I don't particularly care much about the touch bar (never used one, so maybe I would like it, but it doesn't seem all that useful to me). Also it's 7 GPU cores versus 8. But that also doesn't matter to me because I would definitely choose the top model (either pro 13 or air) anyway. Besides, I rarely tax my GPUs since I am not a gamer and not a video processor. The only really enticing thing to me is the 20 hr versus 18 hr battery life, but I don't think that's enough ... especially after nearly a year of staying home and working plugged in 99+% of the time. I do however suspect that the air, with a 30W charger, will charge somewhat slower than the pro 13 with a 61W charger. But I'm probably kidding myself anyway, I tend to buy the best hardware available at the time, so I'd probably get the pro 13 bumped up to max memory and a 1 or 2 TB SSD. That's because I keep my machines for a LONG time and use them constantly. My current macbook pro is the first retina model from mid-2012 with max specs as far as I can recall. Amazingly, my old macbook pro (old quad core i7 from 2011) still outperforms my new PC (new quad core i7 from 2019) at many tasks!
