Happy New Year’s Day. All though it’s only just another day on the calendar, it’s also looked at the start of something new. And it’s also a great day to stop and reflect on the past twelve months. To look at the good, as well as the bad, and to try and gain some wisdom from those events, hopefully providing guidance in the coming months. Like the pebble that’s dropped into the pool and the ripples that radiate out to all sides, the pebble is never fully aware of its actions. Always be thankful.

Thanks! But it's closer to my half-birthday than my real one. I'm not a big social-media person, but I try not to put my correct birthday on any site that doesn't actually need it. It looks like the year was blocked. I'm 45, ready for a mid-life crisis soothing topless Ferrari. But a Unimog or Caltrans surplus snowblower might be just as much fun, and more practical. Damn engineering background! Like I wrote last night, it seems most sales rumors and such are positive. If they mostly ring true, 145-150 in the next 1-2 months seems likely. I'll take that as a birthday present, even if not delivered on the actual date.

Good interview with Munster. Gene Munster, Who Called Apple's Run to $2 Trillion, Says a Path to $3 Trillion Is in Sight (CNBC interview embedded in article). Kernan does the "OMG market cap!" silliness which we saw at $1T and $2T, but Gene shoots it down. Who gives a $#!t about market cap? Gene mentions real estate at the end without bringing up Redfin. I am an RDFN stockholder and believe in the company and model. RDFN charges me 1%. Why do I need a regular agent or Realtor? They are going the way of the travel agent.

I am an RDFN stockholder and believe in the company and model. RDFN charges me 1%. Why do I need a regular agent or Realtor? They are going the way of the travel agent. I sure hope so. 12-14 years ago there was another, maybe "hot" something, that tried that, looking at 3-4% instead of 6%. Pulling up Zillow, they are now showing an estimate on the cost to sell a house. Wow! (150k on a 1.5-2M house) A few years back we heard the realtors in town were meeting together to make sure they could hold onto the 6% rates. That might have been a fair fee way back when, but pricing has far outpaced inflation and normal pay increases. Recent real estate articles have talked of the number of sales where they didn't even visit the house, buying it sight unseen, or just having a realtor walk around and video it. Now is the time for the likes of Redfin to make a solid move.
