AMD in Tucson soon... 3 nm and AAPL subsidizes it, might be Austin. I like it! AMD has been the underdog, and yet slowly building. I interviewed there 23 years ago, just as the K6 scale-up passed a major turning point. Everyone was excited. But they had the Toyota mentality going, with a "ideas" box right next to the fab doors. This was in San Jose, I think on the second floor, and the window next to it had a smashed bird print on it. The things you remember. They had a nice site out in Austin too, though I was likely going to be on the night shift there. Who knows if I would have even made it to Apple and beyond if I had started out there instead of at Motorola. Want something really out there, while hitting on a competitive advantage? iPhone cryptocurrency mining, with some of those extra cycles! Locked to the iPhone, until redemption. 10% given to charity by default, with the rest going towards your new iPhone. It pays for itself! Only on the Mac. Errr, only on the iPhone! (just read the sfgate article of a guy who forgot his password so can't get to his 7002 coins, worth $25M. He's got 2 attempts left. Opps. OTOH, who knows if he would have spent them years ago if he had access) Tim is smart, he plans stuff 10 years in advance, no qtr x qtr mentality at all... Taiwan Semi, is owned by AAPL, at least several years down the road... And yes block chain will gain industry standards, no slight on crypto currencies at all time highs. Think block chain...

I placed a second order at Adorama.com, for another MacBook Pro 8GPU, 16GB Ram and 2 TB SSD on Dec 18, called today, told 2/12/2021 I saved $200.00 over AAPL website price, might be the reason... idk. I miss Luv...She is the reason we are here. The 6 standard configs of the MacBook Pro, 4 for 13" and 2 for 16", all say available today for pickup at our local Apple store, and Jan 20-22 for delivery. Sometimes the BTO options take a bit longer. But sometimes it shows a specific lag time, like for memory, video options, or larger SSD drives.

Go to apple.com or adorama.com, you will see for yourself, BTO’s have NEVER been this bad... i only have 35 years experience. You try... Gonna be a killer Q2, another all time high quarter. Looking forward to 4/27/2021...

I am ONLY talking about M1 CPU, not intel...

I am ONLY talking about M1 CPU, not intel... Nope, no M1 on the 16" thus far. I didn't realize this until recently, but the SSD drives in Macs often (always?) have funky proprietary connectors. A friend's daughter knocked over a cup of water, and it took out her MacBook Air. I've revived machines, possibly all 3 that I have tried, that had liquid contact. A boss at Apple had a lampshade iMac, and he spilled a can of pepsi on his desk. An interesting thing about the those iMacs is that they had an updraft fan at the top. The soda got sucked towards the machine, then spit upwards onto the motherboard and killed it. He moved his data over, but I cleaned off the motherboard a bit and had another machine in my collection. Similar with an 8 year old MacBook Pro, where a friend spilt a little water or milk on it. Since they had already had heat issues with it, they passed it on. It's worked mostly great after putting in a new HD, though it needed another after a drop, and we've gone through 5 power adapters. MagSafe does have its downsides. And then my parents 21" iMac. A cat didn't like them, and would spray. That never killed the Mac, but it was a bit gross to clean out. Anyways, I'm not having luck with her MacBook Air. These things are getting less and less repairable, and it's hard to know if the top side of the MB has damage, or if the keyboard that has the power button is shot. But, it turns out the SSD drive has a special connector (ie not dealing with a standard variety of SATA). You can get adapters for $40-$200, but just on the MacBook Airs there are 5 or more types, so you need to know exactly what you want. If it weren't for this I would say just get a more standard config, and throw a larger SSD at it later. But, there's a chance that Apple can upgrade this for you in the future. Sadly, without a lab of Macs at my disposal anymore, I don't get to disassemble (#5 is alive!) them at will. Given progress, at some point it seems everything is just going to be soldered to one board. But I don't think we're there yet. Good luck

Sorry, I know this isn’t supposed to be funny, but it is. That stupid-ass cat probably wanted a PC.

There was a discussion a while back about hearing impairment. This device sounds like it has potential to help in noisy environments. Not a hearing aid, but interesting.

That just reminded me I used to have a cat that would pee on the electric stovetop burners whenever it was mad at us. It would go undetected until someone needed to use the stove, whereby the resulting aerosol cloud of steaming hot cat piss would just about clear the house of human inhabitants. Cats can be vindictive and clever little bastards. Fortunately that one never got anywhere near my computers.

Lol, well even my cat didn’t have the gall to appeal for unity and “working together” right after doing it.

Given progress, at some point it seems everything is just going to be soldered to one board. But I don't think we're there yet. My 2012 MacBook Pro (retina) has everything soldered to the board. Can't add memory, can't swap out the SSD, can't do anything at all hardware-wise. As far as I am aware, all the current Mac laptops (and probably many of the other macs) have everything soldered to the board.

See here for more information, search for "Third generation (Retina)" First generation MacBook Pro retinas can in fact upgraded. They were the last generation that had upgradeable SSDs - the RAM is soldered to the board on your model, and the battery is glued in, but you can indeed get that SSD upgraded. eshop.macsales.com/shop/ssd/owc/macbook-pro-retina-display/2012-2013Cheers, Adam
