My Cube still works, and not a single crack! 500 MB HD, 😂 I too hope they bring back the Airport Extreme with all the needed updates Cant speak to the touchbar, still waiting on my M1 MacBook Pro... I too need a new, inexpensive Thunderbolt Monitor say 27”, heck i would settle for 4k retina, with P3 color. +/- $999.00 And add an HDMI 2.x please.

Ummmm, it's chips, or wafers. Full production or output. Bins, cases, or something I can no longer remember for groups of 25+ wafers. But not cakes. This is straight from one of those books, that being on the cutting edge is good, but not necessarily the thing that seals the deal. OTOH, if Apple keeps on the cutting edge, that does push things. It looks like not all nm comparisons are equal. The real point would be processing power, compared with energy needed, especially in places where that matters much (ie portable and server). And it matters based on the customer, just as not all cars/trucks are aiming for 1000 hp (or whatever the torque comparison is) engines. It's great that some Apple processors are kicking butt, but there's a lot of customers where processing power really doesn't matter that much. It gives comparative advantages, especially when batteries and weight are taken into account. But it's one of many stats. Ruling one, or a couple, doesn't necessarily make for a landslide change.

My 27" thunderbolt display came back to me last week after hiatus as my father's monitor. Got him a 27" ACER because I wanted mine back. 2012-2021 is a good run and I hope it'll keep going. The thunderbolt cable got pinched by dad though, so it only runs with a TB cable plugged directly to the only port on the back. I did purchase an aftermarket cable to swap, but the online instructions look complicated. I'm saving that surgery for a very cogent and motivated day.
The returned display mentioned above is paired with a 15" MacBook Pro from 2013, the one I took around the world and used to write West By Sea. Late in 2020 I had Apple replace the battery. Seven more years maybe? It has a nice Henge Dock and OWC Thunderbolt 2 hub and drives all my legacy equipment. At some point Apple will stop issuing software updates for it. I'm not running Big Sur on it and may never to maintain backwards ability with various programs.
All this to say that Apple legacy gear is still going strong and yes there's a market for an Apple-branded 27" stand-alone display. I loved the cube but it was underpowered for my needs - and I'm happy it became the Mac Mini. My 2018 6-core mini was off the Apple refurb page with max specs. A great deal. It runs my video editing suite with attached 8-bay HDD/SDD array and eGPU and crushes footage compared to the 2013 laptop. About twice as fast.
I am ready to drop cash on the updated 16" MacBook Pro whenever it arrives. The 13" MBAir will be traded for it, leaving me the 15" legacy for publishing and graphics projects, Mac Mini for in-home editing, and new MBP 16" for on-the-road editing and footage importing.

I have two offices. One at home, where I use an LG 5k monitor. The other uses that Apple-branded 27” display. Totally agree that it still does a great job.
