A little before Saturday, eh? OH HELL WHY NOT DROWN MY SORROWS EARLY (Did I ever mention to anyone that Yard House happy hours are killer if you're near one?) Bad Mav Trade of the Day™: 445/450 BCS. Oh God the pain (though it's not over _quite_ yet)

ZeroHedge will troll AAPL for hits for as long as they can (forever)? They've been cheerfully awaiting the collapse of the world economic house of cards since inception.
They're right about the severe structural problems - they'll be waiting a long time for any "collapse".
Know Your Source™, always.

Aren't those just the accumulation of sell-at-close trades? Oh, and that 435 is not real. It's not on the NASDAQ ticker.

Unclear what effect this will have on AAPL (the news broke a little after market close), but yeah, DOOOOOOOMM - er, helpful.

Picking up on a couple of themes from Friday's thread - if TC quit at this point or the stock got split the share price would crash out, because negative sentiment means uncertain events get interpreted negatively by default. It's too late for the (perhaps effective) con trick that is the stock split - stock splits are classy on the way up, desperate on the way down.
5am here, off to bed. Shit week, with more shit weeks to follow.

By that logic, there is no better time to split the stock. ;D
Or increase buybacks. Or increase dividends! Or a combination?
If we're gonna have a final flush, we might as well have it now!

We are like pancakes, truly pressed. I hate to think about the delta. Too much hurt.
Not a one of us should have more than 15% of our coin in AAPL. Some would say 5%
I have about 30%, and that has hurt me.
Never hurts to revert to the mean. CLX, KMB, GIS, PG, MO, CVX, JNJ, et al, will fetch much more of my dollar.

I'd love to see a surprise "coming soon" Super Bowl ad from apple - it would be perfect to tease a new Apple HDTV...

Has anyone seen the 1 minute clip Ashton kutcher released of him playing Steve jobs?
My early impression of it is terrible.

That does it.
So damn sick of AT&T login issues to the website. Hopefully Proboards Mobile is worth the $3.

The h265 video codec finally got settled and approved today.
Should allow for HD video at half the data rate of H264.
Should see codec software & embedded chips by the end of the year.
Perhaps even a missing piece needed for launching a good solid streaming video platform...

I can't believe I'm saying this but here is an article form a CNBC staffer - Jon Fortt - that is basically 99% accurate and positive. www.cnbc.com/id/100405309(Apologies if this was posted earlier today).

Perhaps even a missing piece needed for launching a good solid streaming video platform... H264 is way too big for downloading from torrents streaming legally from the iTunes store. Fortt has his moments, but he can go off the reservation. I was following him on Twitter while back, but he pissed me off for some reason (imagine that). Good article, and Fortt even mentions Apple's reticence problem.

Through with this last debacle Jon Fortt was pretty fair and well balanced. I posted earlier this week lengthy comments about poor management of expectations in particular to the analyst community and how I thought the analysts were so angry that they will put AAPL in a penalty box for not letting them know the rules had changed PRIOR to ER. No one to blame on that other than management. But we've exhausted this topic and numerous others about this week's melt down.
By the way - I know AAPL doesn't need to advertise to sell more phones but advertising is PR and I mentioned yesterday that RIMM and Samsung are carrying Super Bowl ads - and I see JD mentioned it as well with a link earlier in this thread. Some positive PR couldn't hurt right now. Instead we'll be watching Samsung putting the pedal to the metal to keep it going. What's wrong with some positive PR? Why not something to create a buzz or mystery about another potential product without saying what it may be? By the way - add to the list of screw ups this year some of the advertising they did do....AAPL genius...they had to pull those ads. Too early to get aggravated...need to focus on positive and shake this shit.

Can't wait for Samsung to issue the results of their own internal supply chain audit. www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2013/jan/25/apple-child-labour-supplyThe headline could have read "Apple roots out illegal child labor practices" or some-such. Good for Apple - lead by example & get it done. "Outrage" might bring manufacturing back onshore?

"The iMac's gross margin is typically above the corporate average. So it hurts when Apple's not selling them. (This will continue to hurt Apple's margins in the March quarter, when it will no longer be supply constrained on the lower-margin iPad mini (and perhaps the iPhone 4), but will remain constrained on the higher-margin iMac." This could be why we may not see 40% margins for this Q. Maybe we should take a page from AMZN, and spread the Retina Vision rumor for the mini upgrade coming out in April, to kill mini sales. And there's no excuse for why the Imac was supply constrained. If it wasn't ready for production, then delay the upgrade. You would probably still sell a boatload of the old Imacs anyway. No reason to think that Mac sales for 1Q13 would be any worse than match the number in 1Q12, 5 MM, but what happened was a major blunder that killed sales by 1MM.

There must be enough "claim chowder" currently accumulating on the internet, with doom-mongers predicting the demise of Apple, that John Gruber will be busy on Daring Fireball for many months ahead.

But he did say a few things in defense of AAPL when the earnings were announced, specifically about the big cash horde and how that was very impressive.
