Settle down everyone. I agree with the premise, even if not the exact way it was said. If the next CEO was hired not for their CEO related qualifications, but for other reasons, I would sell at least a portion. And that's no matter the tax consequences. We had my wife's whole family visiting this week, for something like 22, though they are slowly dissipating. There are times to get into the fight on every little thing. But there are times to sit back and nod even if you don't smile, and keep your eye on the overall goal. Good luck out there, no matter the challenge. It's appropriate for a moderator, or any member, to ask people to "settle down" when things get heated...and it's fine for you to agree with the *premise* of the post that provoked the follow-on comments. But your statement, " If the next CEO was hired not for their CEO related qualifications, but for other reasons" is a long, long way from, " Apple's Board will probably hire a black transgender female with a masters in social work to run the company". I thought there was general agreement, months ago, that we'd keep that type of disparaging remark out of the general threads, and unless I misunderstood the agreement, there should be no exception granted for remarks dropped just to "own the libs". The comment about "black transgender female" doesn't even belong in the Dungeon, IMO, but *at least* the member should realize it doesn't belong in the daily or W/E threads. Yep, we try to self-moderate here, and frankly we tend to err on less moderation than more. But glass houses and all, a strict retroactive moderation sweep would probably ban just about everyone, moderators included. If anyone wants to take over, let the moderators know. We've all been tired of this position at one time or another during the last 2.5 years when no one else volunteered. It's thankless, consistently. And yet the alternates of letting the spammers take over or locking it down from all new accounts again and watching it whither just doesn't sit well with those of us that choose to volunteer. As a reminder, if you consistently don't like what you see from someone, any non-moderator can choose to not see those messages anymore. I'm told many of you do that for certain posters, and I'm sure it's great that you have that option.

I posted it to *hopefully* remind any forgetful AFB member that, with all the division to be found in the Dungeon and that has surfaced *recently* in these main threads, behaving as the board's self-appointed curmudgeon and making comments certain to piss off other members is not helpful or humorous. And no, despite protests from any other member, that type of comment doesn't qualify as sarcasm.
