The best part of waking up, is seeing AAPL up!
Looking good an hour into the day. It was steady around $142.70, but still in the $142+ area. And we might even have some volume today!
The RSI has broken the 70 barrier and risen to 79. But it often can stay above 70 for a bit to a while, and the decline to the 50 (neutral) to 70 (overbought/overexcited) range doesn't have to be a drop in the stock price. Sometimes it just gets a little less excited, but still continues going up.
This is feeling like the pre-earnings buying buying we've seen in some other quarters recently, going up on no news while the rest of the market isn't. It feels good, but it's the "buy on rumor" lead up that might make there not be a bump up later, even on positive earnings.
We'll see. After some stagnant times recently, it looks like there will be at least a few pockets of excitement for AAPL over the next few months leading up to the 13.

My dad has been looking at upgrading from his old 15" MacBook Pro, I think the unibody with the Core2Duo chip. A ~10 year upgrade cycle, whereas my Mom's Mac has been upgraded a couple times. Anyways, he had been looking at a new M1 Mac Mini, but on Saturday they texted me that he wanted to FaceTime about getting a new 24" iMac instead, noting that Costco had a delivery date just a couple days away (today, Tuesday the 6th). We chatted about it. It's a good machine. What's your color choice? Costco's version only has 8 gigs of memory, where ideally I would suggest more, but yes that is double what he had been using. Comparing to the Mac Mini, he felt it was about a breakeven since it included the screen, keyboard, and mouse. So he bought it. I think they even just went to their local store and picked it up. Done and done, except that they are waiting for me to do the migration. Apple's Migration Assistant, or whatever it is called these days, is pretty slick. But there still tends to be sticking points, especially when upgrading from an OS that is more than 1-2 versions old. I've upgraded or migrated for a couple decades now, and I'm sure I have some oddities that just aren't often seen or tested for, especially since I was one of those previously doing the testing. After just spending 18+ months trying to find a truck that we wanted, I completely understand holding out for the right one, especially when you are going to use it for a while. Like the iMac, there just weren't any ones available near us that fit the bill. But sometimes the wait is just part of the process, and I'm sure that even though it would be better if Apple didn't have this long delay, it will be worth the wait. (FWIW, I just read my first article this morning that said they thought the chip delay was ending soon. While more aimed at chips for cars, they are decently intertwined. Like Lumber, the worst peak might be over, even if the whole shortage event isn't completely done)

Your iMac still hasn’t arrived, chinacat?! How long has it been? Is Apple swamped with orders or strapped for chips? 🤔

Your iMac still hasn’t arrived, chinacat?! How long has it been? Is Apple swamped with orders or strapped for chips? 🤔 We ordered it on June 1, and it was supposed arrive in 4 weeks; no word from Apple on a revised delivery date. I already mentioned that they would only have it shipped to our house and not to the store, which means lugging both the old and the new into the store for the data transfer. All in all, one of the most annoying Apple transactions that I have ever had. I’ll give it to the end of the week, and then I’ll have to take a trip into the store and try to get to the bottom of things. Not happy.

It is just one example of the little things that have made me an Apple fan and investor.

Instead of going to the store, can you chat with them or call them to check on your order? I have a cart full of things and I periodically check it for delivery dates. iMac-16GB-1TB-trackpad is early August. MacBook Air-16GB-1TB is early August. MacBook Pro-16GB-1TB is late July. Looks like orders are still faster than Apple can build them, at least to build enough to catch up on current orders. That's a good thing I suppose for this new quarter. But it also means that Apple couldn't book all the potential revenue from last quarter because they couldn't ship the products. Double edged sword as usual.

But it also means that Apple couldn't book all the potential revenue from last quarter because they couldn't ship the products. Double edged sword as usual. On the car front, glancing at Siennas, our local zip code shows 0, of any config. Switching to one that includes Sacramento and the SF Bay Area, there are some, and 11 of the AWD configs. But, there are no low end ones. (same with a zip in LA). In looking at what dealers have, for siennas and various trucks, right now they have the luxury of going with luxury. That might not mean only the high end configs, but it does mean adding on a few things, and mostly not having any of the low end. If their limitation is on how many vehicles they can produce, they might as well skew to the high end. OTOH, maybe Apple's limitation is memory. If it is, and if the M1 chips all have 8 gigs built in, then there's a huge difference between getting a default config and getting one that needs extra memory. I don't know for sure that this is the case, and I don't know the difference in packaging and speed of the Intel based Macs vs the M1's with additional memory. But, we have seen times in the past where there are limitations on certain things, like graphics cards or large SSDs. It should point to demand on these higher end systems that people are willing to wait a month for them. Still, just like when new iPhones come out, there's a trade-off on wait time, and sometimes one wishes Apple could just wave a magic wand and be caught up, and with the resulting earnings.
