This might work for all, I just subscribed to WSJ, and I think I can share the link to the full article. I have a new model SE iPhone. I AM ON IOS 14.8 has not suggested that I need to UPGRADE to 15, BUT IT IS AVAILABLE. HAVE YOU UPGRADE TO IOS 15?FROM HEREMixpanel now shows that iOS 15 adoption is at 22.22% on Tuesday, October 5, 2021. Looking back at October 5, 2020, 41.97% of users had already installed iOS 14. It’s worth noting that Mixpanel measures iOS adoption based on data gathered from apps and websites that use its analytics API. So far, Apple hasn’t released official iOS 15 adoption numbers. Of course, there are some reasons why iOS 15 is having slower adoption, but none of them are discussed by Apple. This year’s update is more incremental than last year’s, as iOS 14 brought widgets on the home screen for the first time, Picture-in-Picture for iPhone users, redesigned call and Siri interfaces, App Library, Spatial Audio, and more. Another point is that some of the major new iOS 15 features like SharePlay in FaceTime and Universal Control for iPad users have been delayed until later this year. There’s also a new option that, for the first time, will let users stay on iOS 14 and still receive important security updates. It’s hard to say which of these reasons has had the biggest impact on iOS 15 adoption, but definitely the combination of all of them is making fewer users interested in the latest version of Apple’s operating system. In a poll conducted by 9to5Mac, more than 12% of our readers told us that they’re waiting for iOS 15.1 or a future update with more features, while 5% decided to stay on iOS 14 longer. While this is not a problem in terms of security as iOS 14 is still being updated, a slower adoption may result in app developers having to wait longer to push features that require iOS 15.

It's probably because iOS15 is not an "auto update", it has to be selected at the bottom of the update screen. This is at least true for my iPhone (an 8+). I still haven't updated, and don't have wifi right now, so can't update. But a bunch of other phones in our family have updated (my 7+ is updated, and most of kids have updated - X, XS, X, SE, SE).

I think we have to remember that we are not an average slice of the iOS user base. Some people want Apple products to just magically upgrade right away, which works fairly well by happening at night, as long as no big issues are hit. Some people, the ones wanting to be on the cutting edge, want to upgrade ASAP no matter what...though for some, hitting a big issue would change this. Some just want to be relatively current. Some want to be super current on security updates. And some, probably the vast majority when there are no huge security issues and no new features they have really been pining for, just don't care that much. We upgraded my wife's iPhone 8+ to iOS 15, to make the transition to her new 13 Pro easier. It worked fine. I haven't used it enough to notice any differences. The only thing we have hit in the last ~month is that her calendar alerts were silenced, but offhand it's more likely that it was a setting that we accidentally changed. And these days we can always scapegoat away strange problems onto the kids or the kittens. I thought I had upgraded mine to iOS 15 too. On checking, I'm at 14.8. Long long ago I was in that "update right away" category. Then I did it for a living, which did hit a few of those crazy edge cases, or I at least heard about them. The only one that hit me was printing not working from Virtual PC back in MacOS X 10.1 or 10.2, which at the time I had to use for Stamps.com. But even normal bug (non-major functionality or data issue) can be annoying, and most of the time there's not a reason to wait a little. I'd like it if Apple's SW Update and app store bugged me a little less, at least on some things. I can think of an algo that would work for me, or settings that would give options people might want. It can get complex, or it can be simple with just a few radio buttons. I think Apple is already getting there, potentially not pushing some things (general update) as much as others (high priority security update). I haven't kept track of any reported issues with iOS 15, but it wouldn't be entirely bad to have organic upgrades for a bit (a month), fix any issues, let the upgrade sit for a little, and then push iOS 15.x for everyone. While that's just an offhand theory, it is the rough idea that we had with Software Update Server, where admins wanted to test out updates and have some control before pushing it out to the masses.

At last. We are above $150 again. The big question is can we close there?

Monthly Options expiry today. We may not close over $150 The 3rd Friday of the month was last week, on the 15th. Decent volume on calls expiring today at 150, 152.5, and 150, with low corresponding put levels. Offhand, based just on that, I would expect the stock to close just below 150 if other things didn't contribute. Given earnings isn't until AH next Thursday, that seems probable. We'll see. Not that it matters. But it's that whole trying to understand chaos thing. Like the weather.

So far today: Apple's privacy policies shown to lower earnings of ad-based tech companies. Ad-based tech stocks crater. Which drags down tech sector down overall. And then drags down AAPL stock.
