Hi folks! My apologies if this violates any forum rules of engagement. I respect you all and as a forum member since 2005 there's a great community here that has really supported me and Mrs. Rez over the years. Many of you know she has brain cancer and has been through a couple surgeries and radiation. She's stable right now and we decided to move up the bucket list item "Sail Around The World." Since many people dream about this but most just can't take that much time off, we thought her story could be an inspiration. So we're planning a daily blog from at sea and a full-color book after the trip. To fund the web and print publishing, we decided to go with Kickstarter. They just green-lighted our project and it's live here: kck.st/WeFlcJThis is not collecting money for the trip. That's paid for. This is to bring you along with us on the adventure. Life is short my friends. We hope you'll join us! Humbly, "Rez"

Good for both of you. What an adventure you will have. Memories are moments you make and you are about to make a bunch of them.

Wow. Good for you guys. Maybe I missed it, but are you crewing your own boat, or part of a larger group somehow?

Wow. Good for you guys. Maybe I missed it, but are you crewing your own boat, or part of a larger group somehow? It is a world cruise. As much as I'd like to run the show myself (I'm qualified) we just don't have those resources. Come on AAPL! Without getting too melancholy, cancer is a b!+¢# that sucks dreams and futures. But we're standing up to it the best way we can right now. Hopefully the story inspires others. Thanks all for the support, we really appreciate it!

Hey, if you've got some good company, it might even be a better voyage than just the two of you. I'm sure Mrs. Rez is looking forward to it!

I know the cancer story only too well, as our family was forced to deal with it a few years back. That is one of several reasons why I find this inspiring.

Pretty much everyone has family or friends that've been afflicted. I'm sure many will find the round-the-world voyage inspiring.
Quick question - how to deal with all of the port logistics? Passports, visas, etc.?

Passports, visas, etc.? Mav, that's part of the adventure. I'll report in detail on the process. Basically each country must be checked independently. Lots of ground work. Most countries have very good agreements with USA so a tourist visa is fairly easy. India has (so far) the most hurdles, but still pretty straightforward: submit the application with payment, then about 2-3 weeks. Follow along at the blog (or better yet, join the fun and back the project!) ;D

Thank you Elmar for your pledge! It was great to meet you at the AFB gatherings in Las Vegas. When we are in Europe perhaps we will cross paths again.
And thanks qualitywte, pauls, Lstream, Mav, icam, Apple II+, and fas550 for your support too. I'll plan to bring some international Apple reports back here from around the world.

Very happy to know the bandwidth is paid for. The requirement to blog daily for backers is the single best prediction of success. Plans are important but execution counts. Uncle Steve knew this and his nephew Tim & company are about to unleash a whole can of whoop-ex this year. I actually regret being sequestered aboard a floating prison while y'all get to witness the events via Apple TV. But only just a bit. This week the movers take our stuff to storage and we target some big corporate backers. Next week is the email campaign and contact with local media. Then a one-to-one social media blitz into the last week of follow ups.
The the real fun begins. Still haven't heard from the Ellen show.

Going big, Rez! I like your style!
What's your craft of choice and crew level so far?

So while we're underway this summer, of course we expect APPLE (AAPL) at an ALL TIME HIGH. We hope to run into some of the AFB international members if schedules allow. Not promising anything because we'll be busy with reporting for the book, but grabbing a cup and a pastry at a port café may be just the thing.
Reading back, I'm sorry my comment about vessel and crew added no useful information. As I said, it would be MUCH better and more fun to do this from our yacht. Sadly the career military lifestyle and retirement doesn't tend to produce yacht owners. But living well below our paychecks for 15 years means there is a little retirement money saved up. (Not much in AAPL or the impending Apple at an all time high would change things a bit). We booked a porthole cabin (no balcony) on Sea Princess. They have a good record and itinerary this year. Most world cruises leave in January from the northern hemisphere, which made no sense to us. So a "winter" departure from the southern hemisphere that skipped immediately north of the equator and returned south in the "spring" seemed to be a better idea.
